Los Angeles and New York City are poor markets for college sports, but maybe this will work out well for WPHT, since Penn State is the state university, in a premier conference, and by far the highest-profile school in the state in football, which is where the big money and potential listenership is. Is interest in the Nittany Lions in Pennsylvania comparable to interest in big programs like Alabama, Nebraska and Arkansas in those states, where even non-alums follow the teams and listen to the games?

It’ll work out fine, even with some infomercials bumped for a time in the fall (and they can dispense with paying a part-timer for the Saturday afternoon show a few times). B-ball will bump, what, Levin most often? They’ll be fine.

It's be swell hearing their football games. There are certain stations in the area on FM, but there's nothing like an AM station that comes in from 100 miles away day and night with entertainment.

Penn State has the same colour uniforms as my high school alma mater Brooklyn Tech. White and blue ; blue and white. Plus, for what it's worth, Paterno also was a Brooklyn boy.

Soundalikes : Paterno and Columbo. To some extent, they looked somewhat alike, too.
