1220 Greece

Well, I made a typo. Whoops. I had read somewhere that the 1220 signal was licensed to Griece. I guess it's Lakeville. But I am talking about that verry signal on 1220 KC.

This, I can explain: there were two competing applications for 1220 in the AM filing window way back in 2004. One of the apps was for Greece, and it was eventually dismissed. (If I recall correctly, it never had assurance that the site it proposed to use was available, and it also wouldn't have been first local service to Greece, thanks to WGMC.) The other was Bob's Lakeville application.

Checking the line score thus far: Oldies 2, Lef-Talk 2, Sound Of Quality EZ listening 1. Rounding the clubhouse turn....is that Latino coming up on the rail??

I can hear Dino in the backround....Volare, oh oh, Contare, oh oh oh....

If a WAXC clone isn't an option, there's always Polkas! 8)

A radio guy walks into a chat room and says, "I wanna vote for All Comedy." Go ahead, laugh. It pulls a 2+ share in Kansas City.

Standards seem to do pretty well on AM. If nothing else it'll buy you 10 years on the air. As for how to brand it? Oh I don't know how about AM 1220 Rewind? I know. Pretty weak but it's the only one I can come up with that I haven't heard before! No charge! :D

How about a new kind of talk radio. Instead of "issues", how about SOLUTIONS. That would be novel.

I kinda liked "Swifty 950" -- for when you just don't have the time to hear the whole song.

[Remember this stunt for WROC, playing a listener survey tape complete with the number of the song to match to the coding form; 5 was "favorite" and 1 was "don't like at all," and let's not forget "tired of." I have aged out of these surveys...]

It sure would be novel. That's why I've lost interest in talk radio - just a lot of bellyaching and ranting and raving. All negative, no positive.

That swifty 950 stunt was great for a day but it was dragged out for a whole month which didn't make sense.

Where's the "like" button?

Yeah, I wasn't sure about why it lasted that long either. I was able to [cassette] tape a bit of it. Now, if I can actually find that tape...

(Dad, what is a cassette tape?)

If you can't find your copy, I think I know where to find mine... ;D

If only John and Jane Q. Public got as excited as the posters here about the possibility of another AM station signing on. Come to think of it, if only they got as excited about radio.

They will, whenever we do something exciting ON the radio.

Even the suits have got to figure out eventually that excitement is where the money's always come from, and where it's going to have to come from in the future...won't they?

I suppose you could make the argument that "economic necessity" will eventually propel the current "leadership" in corporate radio to invest in the product, but I'm not so sure.

It's interesting to note the successes of local, entrepreneurial radio, which seems to be doing fine even in small, reportedly economically depressed communities.

Meanwhile, Crawford has turned off its 50kw AM in Albany to escape paying the electric bill....(??)
