1230 WAMM

Listened a bit on Saturday - really weak in the Page County area over to Harrisonburg...muddy and distorted...music and some talk...Doesn't sound like they have improved their signal since the old days...and the newspaper article showing they will serve south to Hburg may be a bit proud.

The article up here in the Winchester Star claimed they would reach up here, but I can't get them inside no matter what I use and outside, they are being just "ran over" by other stations....oddly enough WNTR (WCMD?) from Cumberland...and I am in Stephens City. If they are being overran with WNTR here, in Winchester, they must be non-existant.

Rock on,

1230 still sounds bad - no major change since they appeared again over the weekend...wonder if the tower is still that lovely shade of rust?

ONTO CVILLE - will 1450 be hispanic? Anybody know?

Yeah--Its a joke to think 1230 can cover Harrisonburg and Winchester. What about 1490 AM in Staunton? Was a CP ever awarded for that frequency? And wasn't there a slew of apps for 1600AM in Charlottesville?

Hispanic might be a good option for 1450 or maybe some sort of Nastalgia format? If I remember correctly, WKAV 1400 did a similar format a few years ago, but I never heard if it was profitable. There's already enough News/Talk and Sports Talk on the AM dial in the C'ville Market.

How about the low power FM (93.5)in Scottsville? Last I heard the CP for Radio Nikos ran out in August. Anybody heard what's going on with that one? I wonder what it could be used for since the coverage will be very small, basically just covering the town and the immediate rural area sourrounding it.

I would like to know about that myself...I have no clue what would be played on Radio Nikos, though I doubt it would be religious

Obviously, there are only about 500 in the town of Scottsville proper, and maybe 2,000 in the coverage area of 93.5

By the way, on a segue, is there any more cheap land to be had in South Albermarle, or do you need to be in Buckingham for the cheap stuff...

This is probably the biggest radio conversation that Scottsville has ever had!

Next week: Burkeville or Amelia C.H. radio!

Dunno about 1600. 1490 was a 1 kw station in Waynesboro for years as WAYB and then as WZKT. It went dark due to money problems and the owner turned in the ticket. I hadn't heard of any rebirth. Although for a while an owner 2 or 3 back of 95.5 was in the local paper talking about getting it back on to pair it with his station licensed to Buffalo Gap - but it never went anywhere...

Hey Radio-X

Good luck on finding anything cheap in Southern Albemarle. There's buildings in the town of Scottsville on the market for 300k. Same goes for Buckingham these days..lots that are less than a acre and a half are selling for $25,000 and up, and houses in B-Ham are selling for a minimum of $160,000. Even Dillwyn has houses advertized for 100k or more. Ain't nothing cheap anymore! If a radio station wants to get set up somewhere the land for the tower alone would cost an arm and a leg. Western Buckingham county is only about 20 miles from Charlottesville so real estate there is already exploding.

I doubt if anyone's even mentioned it on here, if they did I missed it. I don't think the Scottsville frequency will be religious either, but who knows? What could someone do with a 100-watt FM in a little town like that? There's not enough businesses in the coverage area to support it. Can you imagine a station in Burkeville or Amelia C.H. as you mentioned? Now that's what I call being "way out in the boonies!" :)
