1230 WDBZ going Gospel

No Gospel station for two years, then within three days we have two of them.

As Lincoln Ware would say, "UN--BEEE---LIEVABLE!"

R1 is fooling themselves if they think what works for Indianapolis and Columbus which has its Gospel station on FM will work for them here in Cincinnati on 1230. I think this is only a cost cutting move with them keeping Lincoln Ware for now on the station. I don't think it will make it past 2yrs with Gospel.

You are being generous Bob. I look for ROIA to dump the format after a year. I thought the black talk format was doing pretty good....but then again, a format doing well will not preclude them from changing it.

He is a old WDBZ program scheduled from 2002:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020322235116/http://1230thebuzz.com/

As you can see, 1230 The Buzz had six local hosts during the weekdays. Local talks shows went from 10:00AM to 12MN back then. That was unbelievable back then because WDBZ is only broadcasting with
a tiny 1 KW signal. One would think that only a station on a big stick like WLW could support so many local hosts during the broadcast day.

It looks like this is a cost cutting move and "1230 The BUZZ" is just a shell of its former self.

My guess is that it will survive by owning the gospel related NTR in the market...concerts, National Baptist Convention, BFR, etc. If you listened yesterday, it was pretty apparent that the original intent was to launch on the first day of the convention being in town, but for some reason they didn't get it ready in time. CVG is good to the lateral, and the rest is all DBZ. CVG will hold the "faithful" listeners that they had for at least portions of the day (When lincoln is on air), and DBZ will take the lead in other dayparts with a majority of gospel listeners due to superior signal and programming. CVG will trend a little "preachy"...DBZ..."inspirational". Who people listen to will ultimately depend upon where they fall regarding their faith. At the same time, a trend on Lincoln's part to link the community issues he already talks about, with benevolence and promotion of faith based partnerships to "resolve" those issues, could result in a product that makes it difficult for CVG to sustain itself.

Bob are you just saying the Columbus gospel station is on FM or Both Indy and Columbus, Because the Indy Gospel station is on AM

I'm saying that the Columbus has the advantage of being on FM as opposed to a weak AM signal that 1230 has especially after sunset. The only advantage is that 1230 will be competing against a weaker AM signal that has the same format on 1320. The station in Indy has been Gospel for many years and has a loyal listener base.
