1260 / 104.9 Austin will probably remain sports

Did anyone hear if the 105.5 translator (that BMP just acquired) was included too? If not, was it included as part of any of the other recent transactions?

Write off the marginal AM signal and consider the price for 104.9! Offhand I'd say BMP did pretty well on this deal...for a translator. ;D

/sarcasm mode off/

They let EVERYONE go? REALLY? Are you SURE?

And, does anybody know anything about the new ownership group? Are you sure they aren't related to Orangebloods.com or attorney Steve Foster, the former roommate of Jason Garrett (Cowboys HC)?

Price seems to be 2x cash flow. Still think they overpaid.

The fact that they're apparently remains all-sports with basically the same crew is good news. I honestly was a bit uncomfortable with the orangebloods.com connection, as it seems that far too much of their time was spent shilling for a website.

Probably both. Or maybe ESPNAustin wants to start broadcasting Longhorn games but could not bid for them because of the connection with Orangebloods. So Orangebloods had to go.

I am of the belief Austin is not a big enough for two sports stations, even in the fall with the Longhorn football. Maybe we are beginning to see the shakeout.

The contract between CC and UT runs until 2015. They have to stay alive for at least another 1 and a half before they can even try for those rights.

Right....there parts of campus where you can't even hear 104.9. There are going to have to be some serious, serious, upgrades done before The Horn is ready to play in that sandbox.

Not much, if anything, can be done about the signal. 104.9 is what it is. It is hemmed in by 104.3 along with 104.9 in La Grange among others.

And to be fair, there are parts of campus, primarily indoors, where 1300 isn't really usable either.

Isn't 104.9 moving back to Dripping Springs? Also, EHogan said some off the cuff comment Tuesday morning about "more changes coming" following a text message asking why Shawn wasn't removed when fat Ketch and Chip were shown the door...is that something you really say, on air? Or is there really no management whatsoever running this turd?

Oh, indeed. But 98.1 is brilliant everywhere...and the games are simulcast on that freq. That's the KVET advantage.

I also recall that the UT Football contract required the games to be carried on the AM and FM. UT is stuck on the idea that the FM is the key to success. If that is true, they should buy 98.9 and do the games themselves. 1260/104.9 is not a fair match to provide play by play anyway.

I personally prefer the sound of the games on KVET AM. The FM seems to be over processed and crackles alot. The nightime games don't provide full city coverage on KVET AM. KLBJ need to get the games back.

Was Shawn from Orangebloods?

Again, I see a ESPNAustin future with less local talent and more national syndicated radio.

I heard Shawn mention something today about an article he had written being posted on a new section of the stations's website. Didn't pick up the name, but it sounded like it was (or is going to be) a competitor to Orangebloods and since Orangebloods is part of the rivals.com family which is owned by Yahoo Sports, I bet the new owners and ESPN in general weren't all that comfortable giving a direct competitor (Yahoo Sports Radio) indirect publicity.
