1290 A.M WKLB Manchester, Kentucky

Can someone please tell me how this radio station is allowed to continue to broadcast illegally. This radio station is programming a F.M Translator on 104.5fm by itself without it's main frequency A.M 1290 being on the air and it is my understanding that you are not allowed to be running and programming a F.M Translator channel without the main frequency channel it is suppose to be simulcasting being on the air and A.M 1290 has been off the air for over 5 months if not longer in which they have not filed a S.T.A with the F.C.C concerning 1290 A.M being off the air. They have no working E.A.S System, no updated public file, and so on among other things. Complaint after complaint has been filed against this station for there illegalities and yet nothing has been done about it and still yet they are allowed to continue to broadcast illegally, someone please help me here, why is this continually being allowed to go on.

Turn them in to the FCC.

Easier said than done. I have a friend who's an AM DXer who can't listen to most of the AM band because of an errant station's emissions. He's been on the phone with the FCC--they don't accept complaints except from licensed broadcasters who are being interfered with(!). The other local AM (which is being interfered with) has a 50KW FM that's been running a few watts for over 10 years so they won't be doing anything to get the FCC to town. Most listeners would just say "it's AM" and be gone from the band for good.

That is not true. I have seen complaints by John Q get investigated and handled.

Which is an interesting Catch-22. I recently had an issue with interference to a Dayton station from a translator in the Cincy area. In that case, I couldn not file the complaint as a licensed broadcaster- it had to come from the listener that had lost service!

We ended up getting them to change frequencies and the FCC was never contacted. So I don't know how that would have turned out.
