1290 one ups Butler

Went to listen to Justin Acri's show at noon and 1290 was broadcasting dead air. Is anybody paying attention over there?

So, you come on here not longer after you hear the dead air, just to rip on them?

Grant runs a pretty good ship over there and I'm sure it was some kind of technical detail.

It seems like you have NOTHING better to do then be negative, as it seems like you have some axe to grind of some sort. You like pointing out failures.

Do you own any radio stations? Are you on the air in a decent sized market right now? HMm.. you're just some bitter ex radio guy who feels the need to tear down others!

They are having problems. 1290 is off because of Century Tel. Century Tell is having troubles all over NWA. And for your information 1390 had dead air again when I went to lunch. I would check your own stations before you start picking on others. I guess i jsut need to stop going to lunch. Grant runs a good station over there.

I agree.. Anyone with a pulse should have enough sense to know that 1290 will wipe the floor with KREB.. I only visit the area but know enough to realize that giving a license to Butler Broadcasting is a waste of airspace. They are off the air more than they are on on those two AMs every time I am up there...

See my point Grant er...uh..radioaircheck. I checked with Butler and there are problems with the satellite audio switcher. So just like 1290 1390's problem is not human error. Oh and you might want to mark the first week of February on your calender, thats when the Arbitron numbers come out, I will have the humble pie ready for you.

Anybody know what the hell happened about two days ago when almost EVERY station in NWA went off the air for about 30 minutes?????

Sorry Jackson... I think you've got the wrong ex-Butler employee if you think I'm "radioaircheck"... I have used the "tongue-in-cheek" Media Mogul name for a long time on these boards. I do know who aircheck is, and if he wishes to reveal himself that's fine. He has been around the NWA radio scene for a while, in fact a lot longer than I have. But let it be known I'm not the one who is going back and forth with you on the off-air problems.

With that being said, we have had an occasional similar problem with our link to 1480 AM at Berryville.. it goes off sometimes for no unexplained reason, and leaves us looking like idiots. Just like your problems over there, it's a switcher issue and I think we've got it resolved. Off-air problems happen all the time. To every one of us whether you are a brand new startup like "The Hog" or an established station like The Fan or even KIX 104. I don't wish those problems on anyone, and I certainly don't like to point and laugh because just like was the case yesterday, it could be me next.

The book will come out in February. It will be interesting to see. I am not going to be bold enough to say that we're going to topple the established station. We're in our infant stages, so whether it's a 18.0, a 3.1, or a 0.0, I'm not going to be surprised by anything. We're actually doing well with our revenues in a relatively short order, and really as long as we're putting money in the bank and serving our clients that is all that matters. I hope that between Butler and our company, we all prosper. I have nothing but well wishes for you, Steve, Pat, etc... because at the end of the day, it's just radio where nobody dies and nobody gets hurt.

Here's to hoping we all stay on the air.

A major transformer blew knocking out power to most outlets...'cept for KIX, who kicked in their generator. Gotta love that redundancy concept! ;)

Very classy response Grant. And for some strange reason, I believe that you are sincere in your well wishes. You guys are on the right track with not only The Hog, but the syndicated Friday night and Hog stuff that you do. With the stations you have in your portfolio between The Hog, 103.1 in Fort Smith, KTHS, and all of Jay Bunyard's SW Arkansas stations, my guess is that you likely have more listeners to your High School Scoreboard show than Randy Rainwater or ARN's shows maybe combined. That's not going out on a limb either... you add the county by county numbers and as much as I hate to say it as somewhat of a competitor to a couple of the stations you own in South Arkansas, the numbers on those combined stations are huge. Keep on the good fight brother! While you naysayers are at it, look at the effort put into www.hogsnow.com and the effort put into www.espn1190am.com and you tell me who is going to win that war. It shouldn't be too hard to judge now should it!

I've been reading these posts for years, and finally had to get an account after seeing THIS one. I love the audacity of Dave (Jackson) Day to sit there and point fingers at another station for one upping Butler. Look junior... it would a station being off the air every day for a year to one up your crummy operation over there on Holly. I've worked in and out of radio in this market for well over thirty years, and haven't ever seen a company whose class ranks as low as Butler Broadcasting. Your idea of being a great programmer is showing up two hours a day, being condescending and arrogant to people, and going back home to your traded out house and smirking at everyone else that you think is beneath you. The X is a joke, and most people feel the need for a cleansing bath by the time their done listening to whatever crap your morning show has spewed out on a particular day. Those two AM stations you can't even hear in half of Northwest Arkansas, and all they are is throwaway for whatever Steve Butler traded out this week. I think it is funny that one of Butler's guys saw the company for what it really is and went out to start his own venture. I don't know him, but obviously from reading up on the station he's got the backing, and from the sound of the station within the book or two Dave, you'll be eating your humble pie after people realize there is a choice between your static filled daytimer that you and Steve run 24 hours a day, and an AM and FM signal that does the same thing better. Go take your arrogance elsewhere Dave Jackson, because your resume and $.50 will get you nothing but half of a cup of coffee in this market.

WOW! That's all I can say. It's kind of like this guy works there or did! You hit the nail on everything!!! Well Dave, I ccan't wait for the respons on this one. LOL

Me neither.. but I suspect that we might not hear from him.... he'll run away with his tail between his legs.

Hey radioguybroadcastin- Thanks for backing me on these posts. Butler Broadcasting is company all their own. Reminds me of WKRP . LOL

Anytime.. Grant is a good buddy of mine, he ain't perfect.. but neither are none of us.. I know he works hard.. and he puts in alot of hours. He deserves some success.

We all have technical issues from time to time... I've had my fair share of problems... including a transmitter getting hit by lightning and going off air in the middle of afternoon drive. I've had the automation go kapootskie in the middle of the day.... Ive had transmitters not operate at full power...

People, like the original poster, tend to run and hide, scared when confronted with the truth. They feel the need to tear down others and make fun of them just to make themselves feel better, when in reality, they are worse off then what they even claim the person they made fun of to be.

Someone will claim I am hiding behind a name, and I am..those who need to know, know who I am. Those who aren't important, don't need to know who I am.. and I don't care. Grant knows who I am. I choose to remain anonymous.

I can guarentee you one thing, I am not an employee in any manner.. past or present of Butler Broadcasting, The Hog Sports Radio or any of the Bunyard stations.

Grant knows me as well. I can tell you that "The Hog Sports Radio' will do great!! They have put all their effort into it and it will be a sucesss. 1190 has those 2 clowns in the morning which sound awful. I don't understans how they get ratings. Bo does a good job. I ahve not heard the 9-1 show they have, so i can't comment on that. but I do know Grant and the guys at "The Hog" with be the highest ratings as far as Sports. It will beat 1190 and 1390, that much I can tell you.

Tell you what I will do DemareeVet. I will take your post, print it, and then pin it up on the wall next to my nomination for Radio and Records Small Market Station of the Year (KXNA), and the Murrow award for spot news reporting (Westwood One).
