1300 AM calling itself Fuego

Looks as though Radio One's Spanish portfolio that had all taken the "Mega" identity last fall have gone in two directions.

103.1/107.1 Columbus, 101.5 Cincinnati, and 105.1 Indianapolis have kept the "Mega" brand and gone Regional Mexican.

1300 Cleveland and 92.7 Indianapolis have gone Tropical as "Fuego"

They have no impact in Cleveland or indy for that matter ''fuego'' is people that have 0 knowledge of the music trying to program to Domincans and Venezuelans in indy and Puerto ricans in Cleveland. Talk about a HOT MESS!

Streaming Fuego in Indy, it has at least a minute or two of silence between songs. They have to get their stuff together if they want people to actually pay attention to them.

lol.... a minute or two of silence between songs? Thats, just not logically possible... even when ive ripped in music off a CD or downloaded stuff off the net, if i forget to trim the silence, its a couple seconds at best.

IF there was a minute or two of silence between songs, theyd have to be using some old windows 3.1 computer with 128mb of ram running winamp... lol

BUT, Ive been listening for 15 minutes.. havent head ANY dead air between songs.. and there is a jock, likely voicetracked.. even if he isnt in market.... and its voicetracks specifically for indy as i heard him mention uno cero cinco punto uno.

EVen if they were like.. rebooting the computer and let a CD play, thered be a few seconds at best between sopngs.. and that would only happen for 2-3 songs./. most computers reboot quickly now.

The station listed the silence as Tropical music. It claimed to be playing a song by Eddy Herrera (not sure which one), while the stream itself was silent. Then, after actually playing a song, it went back to silence while the website claimed it was playing "Un Amor Eterno" by Marc Anthony.

You've got the wrong station. That's Mega.

ok i have to apologize, somehow i crossed the two stations

ive heard the silence.

something is definately wrong on their end.. and i gotta wonder what.

I agree. So many legendary personalities worked at WERE 1300 over the years - Bill Randle, Carl Reese, Pete Franklin, etc. I hate that the call letters got moved to 1490 with its puny signal.

I wish they would swap them back. WERE back to 1300 and WJMO back to 1490. The WJMO call letters have a heritage in the black community and 1490 is currently programmed with urban talk.
WJMO began on 1540 in the 50's under Richard Eaton. He bought suburban WSRS in Cleveland Heights around 1959 and later moved the AM tower down to Euclid Avenue just east of Severance Center. The FM remained for years at Cedar and Lee in the Heights.

I wonder how this station is doing? It doesn't look like 1300 coverage is very good in the areas where most of their potential listeners reside.

Do you know what kind of tropical? There are two broad types, Caribbean (salsa, merengue and bachata) and Mexican/Central American (cumbia). Those who like one tend to hate the other... often with passion.
