1300 WMAK's GEORGE MOONEY has passed away

I was George's general manager at WUNO in San Juan, PR, in the very early 70's. He was a great boss, good friend and lovely person. I was proud to be part of the management team he recruited, including Jerry Adams, John Bomer, and Sam Trent and to have met folks like Joe Sullivan and Scott Shannon and Bob Baron and Alfred D. Herger on the programming side, too. I'm saddened by his passing.

George was acting GM at WMAK/92Q after letting one GM go...and there was a dispute over pay/hours:
he asked me for more details...I mentioned a former PD...and he nearly jumped across the desk yelling "it's been
going on that long?!?!?!?" I told him "yes"...and I had documentatio. George's reply: "not necessary. If you
say it's so, that's all I need". I got a check for the disputed back pay within the hour.
For the record, the former PD and GM were changing hours on signed time sheets to avoid overtime pay.
