1310 WBUD Asbury Park

I have to wonder why they're bothering. Perhaps they're parking the calls on 1310 for future use somewhere back in the Trenton market. I say that because the WBUD calls have no history or resonance at all in Monmouth County or at the Jersey Shore. But the WADB calls have great history in that area. Somehow, I don't think anyone in the 1310 signal area was trying to hear Fox Sports on 1260. So, other than parking the calls for future use back in the Trenton area, it doesn't make much sense to me. But the possibility of a future WBUD on FM is quite intriguing. Now what may happen to the WADB calls? Just gone forever? Or could they be assigned to, say, WOBM-AM if changes occur at 1160? Just thinking aloud and speculating - I have no inside information whatsoever.

>>> But the WADB calls have great history in that area.

WADB was an "elevator music" station that I doubt anyone under 70 remembers.

The calls may have had slight value back when WADB became "The Rat" and
WJLK picked up that music and call letters for a short time, but 5 formats later, who cares.

WBUD would be good on a classic rock or something ...

I have an idea.
How 'bout WBUD being the call sign of a million watt CB channel. Good Buddy!

Now that you've all groaned... But doesn't the phrase "Good Buddy" mean something that Jim McGreevy might be interested in these days? I don't think you should SAY that on the CB band anymore, because what it meant in the CB-BOOMING 70's, ain't what it means today. Not that I have PERSONAL knowledge of this..of course...and not that there is anything wrong with that....well actually....never mind.

I think BUD is a fab call sign...and I think SOMEONE is up to SOMETHING with parking it at 1310. It might make a great COUNTRY call letter...hint-hint.

Or it could mean absolutely nothing. If 1310 were WISE, I'd just go back to WJLK!!

While it has been a while, I think THOSE call letters are far more familiar to adults in Monmouth County than WADB, WBUD, OR WOBM. But I think it'll all be moot soon, as I think ALL of the local AM's will be gone soon. They'll either be sold off..traded or something. There IS talk about possibly moving all AM stations to a new FM allocation lower on the FM band than the NON-Commercial stations. Don't know if it's feasible...but some suggest the BIG 50K stations STAY on AM and ALL of the others move to FM. That way the BIG stations KEEP their original NIGHT signals...and the marginal AM'S get an FM signal comparable to what their AM reach was. Not a bad idea actually.

I read recently that Dan Mason was lamenting the dearth of AM radios in Hotel rooms. Dan...I can barely hear WCBS-AM on my VOLVO car radio...that's how much car manufacturers care about AM radio. And that's SAD. But it is true. They sound like walky-talky quality good buddy. I wish it wasn't true. I LOVE being on AM. I love being on FM. I love being on Satellite. I've never been on short wave. I've Never Been To Me.

I'll stop now.

BE BIG!

The " Bud" is a perfect set of calls for a serious AOR, if there are any left.
