1320 AM Nighttime Site

I noticed KIFM 1320 was recently (December 2021) granted a CP to transmit at night from the daytime site. The night power will be reduced from 5kw at the existing Roseville Road site to 620 watts at the day site.

Entercom applied for a similar CP years ago to consolidate at the daytime site and change COL to West Sacramento. However, for whatever reason they decided to keep the nighttime site. It now appears they want to get rid of that facility.

The proposed night pattern has a major null to the east side of town. Seems that going ND at 500 watts would cover the region better than this directional pattern.

It’s interesting that the Sacramento market currently has not one, but four AM stations with separate day/night sites (890, 1210, 1320, 1380). Wonder if others will look into consolidating their sites eventually to save costs as land/electricity goes up and AM listenership continues to decline?

Moving sites may not really save on electricity

And dont you think if they could go 500W ND, they would? Once they move and downgrade they lose any protection they were afforded and then have to protect others

It appears 1320 is now 24/7 at their Garden Hwy site. Good luck getting a signal east of the metro area (unlistenable in Folsom), due to the null and flea power. I know it’s ESPN radio but they do simulcast Damon and Ratto PM drive from 95.7 SF.

KIFM 1320 sure seems to be on day power at night on many nights or using higher night power on occasion. Cuts up highly directional KKSM 1320 nights.

Interesting that they're not attempting to diplex with either KLIB or KFIA. Of course, maybe those sites are destined for development too. I do have to admit that I really hate it when I'm listening to a game at sunset and it just disappears, but I'm way out of town. Now that phenomenon happens for most of the Sac metro.
