1340 Martini Lounge went By By's. Apparently, that didn't take long.

Well, it looks like 1340 Martini Lounge is history. I am hearing a mix of rock and country on the big 1340/WHAT-AM Philadelphia.
At 7:01 am this morning, on 1340, I actually heard an old KHJ Los-Angeles/’portions pre-recorded’ station ID. I kid you not. They did not even run a WHAT Philadelphia ID afterwards. Followed by a song by Everclear, then Aerosmith. You may be asking yourself, what am I doing twiddling the AM dial just before dawn, when I’m supposed to be blazing a pioneering internet trail, but I do have to a little DX’ing every night, for a little intellectual stimulation, and relaxation, sometimes’ right before dawn to see what I can pick up. Some things are just more fun than others. Besides, I’m just an old die hard AM’er. Isn’t everybody?

I can't tell when exactly they made the switch to this "stunt", but by going to their still-functioning (for now) website (click on "music") it appears they've been playing the same 3-hour, 20-minute loop of music and jingles.

Sam: That KHJ jingle you heard is actually part of the Everclear song it was followed by; the track is called "AM Radio". It actually takes a shine to great AM radio pioneers like your late, great dad, Hyski O’Roonie McVoutie O’Zoot! 8)

It does make me wonder what format (the third one in a year!) Tom Kelly's "toy" will employ next. This stunting is similar to what they did pre-Skin Radio.

I know the old Skin Radio had a stream, but is/was there one for the Martini Lounge?

Time for Real Oldies again! Why not? Nothing else is going to work there so go for it. Some of the real oldies stations that went bye bye's a couple of years ago are actually coming back for the second time. WRAW in Reading is doing real oldies again and Fox Sports Radio in Allentown plays oldies between 9 and noon Monday thru Friday. Strange.

Ok, here's the word

Ok, here’s the word, I just heard from Mike Bowe. He tells me it’s just a glitch, that caused the 1340 format change. Apparently, the link to the transmitter failed, so what you are hearing is a standby loop at the transmitter bldg. But not to fear, the official word is, Martini Lounge will be back up, as soon as the handy dandy engineers fix their handy dandy transmitter link. I know this may strange, but the signal seems to be booming today in here in Gladwyne Pa., as opposed to the typical faded signal grade and the occasional skywave that we have all come to love and cherish on 1340.

Does Mr. Bowe know if the station is making any money?

Dam I wanted to broker the morning slot for a morning drive show even had a team ready to go.

Dam? The exclamation is damn.

That aside, you referred to a team. Too bad you won't get the opportunity to use it, since it could have been the "throat shot" that killed terrestrial radio once and for all.

No thanks, You already put one AMer out of it's misery somewhere in S. Jersey. Like I suggested before...become a social worker.
