1340 - The Whale

KLKI, the Anacortes Flame Thrower at 1340 is now the Whale - KWLE. It's a pretty typical approach to 'local' with voice tracking, lots of local sports and remotes. The new owners TV experience, but no direct radio background. I'm a huge proponent of local radio, I'm just not sure this is the approach that works. For all the money they put into it they could have much more easily just put the station online.

I'd be curious what you guys/gals think. Give it a listen at - www.1340thewhale.com ...

Merry Christmas...

??? Would some more "Progressive" talk be a fitting format for this region instead of more Matchbox 20?? "C'mon lefties let's her it" as Big Eddie would say..... ;D

P.S. I think I saw a post on this station months ago....maybe even years ago....aw ratz, I'm out of egg nog.......

Well never mind. Sorry I did miss the previous post...

I'll go back to the eggnog myself now...

While "demographically" KWLE IS different, It has potential KBRC and KAPS never had. First, people who are willingly to spend some money on making an AM station relevant (It's like seeing the copy of "The Number Of The Beast" Iron Maiden 8-Track tape in Fred Meyer Music Market-in the Clearance bin in 1983.)

Analog AM Radio still has a value. An incredible value. It's what you put into it, not just buying a frequency. I used to listen to KLKI for Bill O'Mara (and to be honest, they can STILL use his sports expertise) What better tribute to a man of his knowledge than to keep him on in a Contemporary format?

You just don't throw the old school classics like him away. You VALUE them. They may be older now, but how can you call them your heros if you do not appreiciate what they have tought you about good radio?

It's all what you put on AM radio and if you're ready to get serious about being a strong contender, then I STRONGLY suggest, GET SERIOUS. KWLE has the right idea, just needs a litle more focus and synch...
