1350 WZGM - Does the Format Wheel Ever Stop Here?

As the broker mentioned in the Ken Bagwell thread, WZGM is now playing some sort of AC format...I couldn't believe that HRN could possibly flip formats here again. But a check of the HRN website, states that WZGM is now the best of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. This is so unbelievable, how can anybody now take this station seriously. Talk about "guinea pig" radio. I guess longevity, "test of time", and perserverance are words not in HRN boneheaded management's vocabulary ???

Someone needs to put this station out of its misery.

Are their studios still in downtown Asheville?

Eric

Things never seem to change, I remember how folks used to joke about the format changes on WSKY. One tale went that Zeb Lee had a dart board in his office, and wherever a dart he threw daily hit was the format of that day.

I do remember that one thing was consistant on WSKY though, Zeb Lee doing play by play of Asheville High sports.

There is a radio group here in knoxville like that. Horne Radio had a couple of stations that would change formats as often as the seasons. They have settled down a bit over the last couple of years.

Any chance someone might pair this station with WMXF so Asheville's senior citizens will actually have music they can enjoy?

Of course, it's actually a Black Mountain station; what kind of signal do they have at night in Asheville?

I pick up WMXF just fine in my motel room in Haywood County when I go there.

In a car, they can be heard in extreme east Asheville at night--about River Ridge, which is where US 74A/I-240 and I-40 meet. I think simulcasting WMXF's format on 1350 is a great idea. I have missed hearing standards in Asheville since they left WISE several years ago...I think 880 briefly tried standards after trying to be the WWNC "replacement" for classic-leaning country.

They did. I remember being pleasantly surprised several years ago. I knew I could enjoy classic country if there wasn't anything else, but this was pop.

You can't pick up WTZQ 1600? I know you can't at night. I was able to the last time I was there in daytime.

Unbelievable...listened yesterday and heard Jukebox Hero by Foreigner followed by a terrible and not even a big song by Rick Astley. Then a Christmas song that wasn't even popular! Who's gonna listen to this....on AM!

They obviously don't have a clue about reaching an audience with a niche format such True Oldies.
That, at least, could realistically work since 96.5 moved away from the format.

Don't worry...if you don't like the format now, just wait about six weeks and tune back in...it'll be something different. It's a tradition.

This is all that's on the site:

"Black Mountain / Asheville's new station
with the greatest hits for the
70's, 80's and 90's
along with Local Cut's
featuring Asheville's own artist"

"Asheville's own artist"? As in singular, not plural?

Judging by the site's content, all bets are off on flipping to a phonics format!

So that's, what, four in a single year? Is that a record?
