1360 speculation

Here's what I think the changes will be.....

Boortz & Reagan out, maybe Bohannan also

Hoeth back to PM drive
Thom Hartmann upgraded to live noon-3
Cullen 9-noon

Evening syndication: Ed Schultz and/or Stephanie Miller
10 PM -- Lionel

Bowyer probably also out, perhaps moving on to a national syndication deal or another market. He does a lot of subbing in the LA market and for Mike Gallagher.

Morning drive -- hard to say, maybe AA's Morning Sedition

We'll see in 10 days how close I am.

Total speculation on my part here, but speculation's fun...

We know Tony likes local...and independence implies independence of networks. So...

Cullen, Hoerth stay
Chris Moore and Bob Logue join...

With Logue's sponsors, Tony would be happy. Chris and Lynn fill a niche unserved by KD and 104.7. Hoerth is Hoerth.

Whither Minto?

That piece of speculation makes some good sense. I agree with you about Logue, but I think Moore would also be a major asset for WPTT. For WPTT to go even more live and local sound more like what Renda would do, based on his prior track record.

As for Minto, his talk show was just a sideline from his main job, being a pastor. Or, to put it more accurately, he always gave the impression that he considered his talk show on WORD as part of his ministry. I don't see him choosing doing a talk show on a secular station. I could be wrong, as I don't know him personally. But based on what I've heard from him and about him, that's where it seems like his goals lie.

My guesses are based on the following:
Hartmann is doing promos for the change. Wouldn't be doing that if he was being dropped. So is Cullen.
Chris Moore is under contract at KDKA, although his air time has recently been cut in half. Maybe when his contract is up he could end up on weekends. I think he has too much going on during the week at QED and elsewhere to do a daily radio show. Logue's operation is a cash cow, but only makes sense overnights and then only AFTER they get on the 910 frequency next year. Could give KDKA a run for its money overnight then.
If they're looking for more local, progressive talent, how about Rick Bergman who is hardly ever on 1020 anymore? He would make sense for an evening slot after the frequency change as well.

Finally, a thought out piece about the lineup change that doesn't scream "Air America" or "Jack". And bonus pts for noticing that Hartman is mentioned in the "independence" liners.

Doug Hoerth is also doing promos and he mentions that the best FIREWORKS will be on WPTT. Does this portend a Cullen/Bowyer morning show combo? That could be followed by Stephanie Miller 9-noon. Just a thought. I really do NOT expect Air America on 1360 at all. So my new scenario is:
Bowyer/Cullen Morning Show
Stephanie Miller
Thom Hartmann
Doug Hoerth
Ed Schultz
Lionel (or Rick Bergman/ Chris Moore after frequency change)
Logue overnight after the frequency change

Boy, Neil Bortz didn't stick around too long

Here he was on billboards!

People started talking how he got better ratings on 104.7 than Limbaugh!

And you know what? The guy just comes off as mean and nasty when you listen to him- and I'm about as conservative as they come. He lasted what- TWO WEEKS?

Still, this to me seems to be a change to keep up with 104.7. They present the right- WPTT presents the left.

WPTT had to do something as their ratings were tanking- I think they were down 40% in the last book overall.

Personally, I think that's because Hoerth and Cullen are way, way, way, way, way past their prime. I mean these guys make Jack Bogut look contemporary. I was trying to listen to Cullen yesterday and just couldn't follow her- her manner of speaking was just so slow.

That and the fact that her message was one of such pessimisim that I couldn't understand how anyone of any political affiliation could listen for three hours and not commit suicide.

Final question- will Laura Ingram be carried live?

Laura Ingraham at 7am??? She's not live until 9am! So, it's a replay???

Seems all over the board with this one; they should have tried for a morning show. But it's good to see Hoerth back in PM Drive--though he was good in AMs.

If Logue wanted to continue to work the late shift, he could have stayed at KD. They were nickel and dime-ing him to death, but he still would have made more money at KD than he would have with Renda.

Some of the sponsors he attracts are ones who sell mail order snake oil cures. Part of the lure was the 50KW signal getting out there. I'm not sure a lot of them would be that interested in Logue pitching their products if the show isn't getting much outside of Allegheny County.

Realistically, it doesn't make sense for Renda to do anything local after 7 p.m. The numbers are just not going to justify the expense.

Re: Boy, Neil Bortz didn't stick around too long

I would say by and large the change was precipitated not because of political leanings, but moreso because Bowyer will be headed to WORD to do the old Marty Minto slot. That being said, Bowyer's departure did create an opportunity to overhaul the lineup, and Michael Reagan and Jim Bohannon weren't doing much in evenings anyway, whether that be because of content or signal, it created an opportunity ot get rid of a bunch of shows at once, rather than nickel and diming one change at a time.

You got that right!!

I tuned in Cullen today just in time to here her reveal her time slot shift and the other changes. I hadn't heard her in a while, and you're right. Her delivery is painfully slow. I wanted to shake her by the shoulders and just say "just say it, woman". She sounded like a Saturday Night Live parody of NPR.

During a few of her between word pauses, I thought my radio had broken.

Is she well?

9-6 are good moves; and Colmes does a good show.
but 4 hours of consumer reporting Clark Howard??? too much and too boring.
and Laura Inghram has no chance at 7 AM, and she is just another member of the right wing zombie brigade.
Why not go back to Doug Stephan for AM drive if you can't do something local?

Laura Inghram is hardly the left!

WHAT HAPPENED?

Was there an announcement? I can gather that Cullen's moving, Bowyer and Reagan are toast, and Laura Ingraham is entering? What is the format? Where is this independence?

You can't get Morning Sedition without taking Franken too. Bill Press will start syndicating a morning drive lib talk show next week.
