1390 AM Charleston

APEX's WXTC (HEAVEN 1390) in Charleston has switched from Gospel to Classic Soul. (I heard the announcement while listening to APEX's Urban AC STAR 99.7--So does this mean a change is coming to 99.7???)

Wow, I heard that, and that is a very interesting switch, going from Gospel (which they have had since 1997) to Classic Soul.

At least it gets them back towards what it was during the WCSC days, when they played lots of Disco music around '79 or '80, and were a good oldies station in the mid to late 80s before they were sold.

I'm surprised that they did this, as they had the highest rating of any AM in Charleston in the summer book, and had a good following. I suppose WJNI, with the full power FM gospel, got more billing than XTC.

Its OFFICIAL..Apex/Charleston, S.C.'s WXTC-AM (Heaven 1390) has dropped gospel in favor of old-school R&B, using the new moniker "Classic Soul 1390." WXTC-AM and urban AC clustermate WXST (Star 99.7) PD Michael Tee will continue to program both stations.

WXTC-AM aired old-school R&B prior to its flip to gospel in 1997. .

Sorry to correct you, but WXTC played country music (as a simulcast of Bubba 107.5) then they went gospel. Before that, they were a sports talk station in the mid 90s.

They were R&B/oldies back in the late 1980s, but mostly general oldies.

Heard 'em on a drive up 95 from Jacksonville to Florence. And, heard 'em last week one night in VA when someone forgot to put the night pattern on (!) Loud and frequently dominating 1390.
Good format. Charleston is rare with two decent music AM's, 980 and 1390.
