1400 KHCB AM

Whats up with them? For the last two days, their signal sounds terrible (modulator trouble?)....All I hear for the most part is the carrier.....and maybe some(?) sideband audio but it sounds muffled and weak...It really gets to me that it has lasted this long without anyone noticing.....errr correction, FIXING it?? (well I noticed it but since I dont work there ;) On a drive to Lake Charles, I first thought it was the LCH 1400 that was dead air...but later realized it was KHCB's dead carrier blanking out KOAK...On the way back later in the afternoon, same thing....

They musn't care about the station, i can't imagine theyve allowed it to continue.

CW, could it have something to do with their CP? I have caught 1400 once recently as far north as Jersey Village. It was some type of Asian programming. I assumed that this had to be KHCB, as KHCH/Huntsville (the station I used to barely get at 1400) moved up to 1410. You mention 1400's audio going to hell, I'll bring up the other old Galveston AM. I used to pick up 1540 ok when I got into Houston but since they became Hum Tum City, I can't get the signal to save my life. Wonder what happened there? I thought KGBC upgraded their power, not dropped it.

At my Cy-Fair location KHCB 1400 is still at its usual level. Not strong, but decent enough for a comfortable listen. The Asian language programming usually runs on weekends.

KGBC 1540 still putting in a decent day signal at my location, much better than 1400...and about the same level as the closer KILE, which is still at 800 watts.

1540 ALWAYS has a strong signal to the east over the BPT area....Almost stronger than KTRH at times!! I need to break out the FS meter and do some checking....besides 1540 splatters half the time (almost sounds like HD buzz but its not...its analog splatter YUK!)

What a mess. They got the thing upgraded (so to speak) to 2,500 watts daytime, got a license to cover back in March, and it's still not right. The way the signal hugs the coastline, I'm surprised the station over in Gretna (NOLA) isn't complaining, and I'd really like to see what kind of readings you get over toward Beaumont.
