1440 in Jackson

I see that a new Construction Permit was granted in in Jackson on 8/14/2008... I beleive it was originally filed to be on 1450 but they filed a modification to move it to 1440.

Its got 5KW Day from 2 towers in somewhat of a flattened circle pattern with 300Watts at night from 5 towers and pretty much all south. All the towers look to be in-line from a site just about 1000 feet NW of N State Stree/51 and a few hundred feet south of Beasley Road....

What's the format going to be? My guess would be they move the ESPN format from 1240 to 1440.. as I think the guy who has something to do with the 1440 CP is part owner of 1240 WPBQ.

(Totally off topic, he owns a small 150 Watt Commercial FM on 95.9 in Freer, Texas)

What?

If I was GIVEN a license and had to build it, I'd find a way to make it profitable.

Think for a minute you don't have the time to plan out a format.....think about it after you build but befor eyou go.

Bein given something for free it not something you always want to turn down.

If someone gave you that permit with the requirement you had to construct it,
would you accept the gift? JBI

No.

I don't see how Jackson supports what they have now on the AM band. Plus, the nighttime signal doesn't reach the parts of town where the money is, from what I can see.

Then again, I don't have "AM Constructin' Money" anyway. ;)

It wouldn't surprise me, however, to see the ESPN sports format from 1240 move to this frequency, or simulcast if that's allowed.

The only formats I can think of that aren't on in Jackson are Radio Disney, business news, all comedy, ethnic/Mexican and smooth jazz. With those gaps, I predict corporate radio would format the station as sports, gospel or talk. You can never have enough of those. </sarcasm>

A Simulcast would sure be allowed.

I don't see Radio DIsney on it.. as Disney no longer pays to lease facilities.. and their format is hard to sell.

I could see the sports staying on 1240 and paid/brokered time on 1440... or paid/brokered time on 1240 and sports on 1440.

The other possibility is CLassic Country.. I think the guy who has the CP is a Classic COuntry fan.

Oh, he's also a fan of "Dead Doctors Don't Lie".. some cooky paid time show.

Five towers with 5kW day/300 night with all the associated phasing and matching gear? Plus studios, STL's and regulatory fees along with Washington attorneys? Second quickest way in the world to go broke, unless you're one of the big religious broadcasters. No thanks.

I bet there will be lots of coat hangers and big balls of wire that go nowhere involved in the construction. There is also that good possibility that jumper cables will be used to tie the towers together.

They are not planning to actually build the station under the current CP.

I wouldn't be surprised if their CPA told them they were nuts to build a radio station...
