1440 : Your most unID wish -- Day and Night

In the day here, the combination of WCDL Carbondale and the downstate WNPV deter the station I'd most want to log --WMVB from southern NJ. I had never heard them back in Queens. It looks like a sunset or sunrise vigil is required.
And the old WBIS from Bristol CT (heard ONCE back in Queens) is no longer on the air.

Nights on 1440 offer nothing I'd really sell or lease a son to log here in NE PA. Maybe Worcestor MA. Or Green Bay.

You folks?

Lol -- I guess I *did* hear my most-wanted 1440 here one night in NE PA. For reasons lost to time, alma mater WNYG Babylon came in for several IDs one overnight. It's highly likely that they left their daytime (former daytime-only) signal on. Their PSA used to be 500, and they were later licensed to something like 38 watts at night.
Nowadays, WNYG has moved to Medford, tower and all, some 25 miles east. Word is that they are diplexing / sharing a few of the sticks run by ANOTHER alma mater, the former WPAC Patchogue.

A primer, hi, for you folks who aren't familiar (or don't in the least care) with some of those Long Island villages and COL's you see on this 1440 Patchogue link (and a few that aren't on the map):

https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WLIM&service=AM&h=N

Patchogue is said 'PATCH-ogg'
Islip is said 'ICE-lip'
Ronkonkoma is 'Ron KONK ih-muh'
Commack's first syllable is said like in 'comma'.
Hauppauge is 'HOP-hog'
Copiague is always said something like KOE - peg, sort of as in 'co-pay'
Yaphank is 'YAPP - ank'; second syllable said as in 'anchor'
Setauket is sih -TAWWK - it'
Wantagh is 'WANT - taw', first syllable like the word 'want'.

Ooops. There's the class bell. You kids have fun next in Physics II / Electronics, and in Native American history after that, hi..

KFOO Riverside CA (La Preciosa 1440) or the Lamptimer in Phoenix, KAZG Scottsdale (Oldies). Both well-needed.

KAZG would be a great catch! It is not often reported and I wonder if it does not get out too well.

1440 in Riverside (KPRO back then) was widely heard in the East back in the late 50's and early 60's when the channel would be entirely clear after 2 PM EST on Monday mornings. In fact, depending on conditions, it was either KPRO or KMED in Oregon that might be heard. And if either came in, it was an indication of whether to look for stations from the Southwest or the Northwest (Including BC and Alaska). My one-time-and-never-repeated reception in Ohio of KFAR, Fairbanks, AK, on 660 was done after hearing several of the bell-weather stations from the Pacific Northwest.

From East Tennessee, 1440 is wide open. I worked at a 1440 (WPGW, Portland IN) very early in my career, and I'll nominate that as my most wanted for 1440. Honorable mention: I didn't even know there was 1440 in Ontario (Mansfield) OH, and it's almost shocking a 6 tower directional was built as late as 1987. The day pattern looks like it could definitely get to my area on daytime or sunset skip.

I'm not supposed to pick it up very well in NE Mesa, but those 52 watts do quite well here, even inside my stucco-encrusted house 20 miles away. Might be worth a try if you're not close to another 1440. Might be tough in SoCal if Riverside overrides it.

West Central Georgia:

Day: I'd like to hear the three stations on this frequency in Georgia - WGTG Brunswick GA 5000/1000, WGMI Bremen GA 2500/62 and WDXQ Cochran GA 940/48. The only semi-local stations I have heard on 1440 are WLWI from Montgomery AL 5000/1000 and WZYX from Cowan TN.

Night/Critical Hours: Would like to try to hear KEXB University Park TX 50000/350 and KTUV Little Rock AR 23000/240 - might be possible in the early evening when it is dark in Georgia but they are still on day power in TX or AR.

Aside from the "lamptimer" in Scottsdale, I suppose my most wanted 1440 would be WGEM in Quincy, iL. I've heard it in various locations around the Midwest, but not here

I forgot about my one-time local for the brief time I lived in Quincy and worked in Hannibal at KGRC. That would be a good one to hear. I've heard WTAD-930 a few times in various locations but never WGEM.

Same here. I hear WTAD from time to time at my home location. As well as KHMO from nearby Hanibal, but never WGEM. WGEM has a very good daytime signal, but I've never heard them in the Chicago area at night. I've also never heard them at my college location about 70 miles away from Quincy in southeast Iowa, despite being within range of WGEM-TV (Ch 10/NBC) and WGEM-FM which simulcast the top-40 show on WGEM-AM at night.
