On August 2,2011 WQKC 1450 AM will have been silent for 1 year. I don't know all of the FCC rules, but if the station isn't back on the air by August 3 doesn't Cumulus have to turn in the station license? What happens then?

Somewhere along the line, Cumulus may have filed for an extension of time due to negotiations that have apparently fallen through...I'll check their FCC correspondence files online and see if it's there.
An extension for the silent STA was filed back in May. I'm hearing rumblings that Cumulus has a buyer on the hook.
Hey! They are back on...and playing oldies. Guess they saved the license just in the nick of time.

They remind me of WOCC-1550 AM in Corydon, Indiana which focuses on 50's-70's music with very little liners or images between songs.

I know of two people who did due diligence on purchasing 1450. Both commented on the studio building being too large to be efficient. What format would you put on it? One of my friends had a radically-different spoken word format he had planned, but I better not give specifics in case he ends up with it. The low hanging fruit of gospel/paid religious programming might be tempting. I'd be tempted to try bluegrass music; I just don't think any music format would be successful in terms of revenue.
They might want to check and make sure they have both the Left and Right channels summed together for Mono. Could have sworn I heard a couple of tunes that were missing part of the mix.
I found them on the air last night, too...perhaps they'll stay on the air just long enough to shakedown the dormant system. And, yes, some of the songs aren't properly summed to mono for the output channel on the automation.
Also, some potential buyers may be pattern checking or doing a proof-of-perfromance certification before finalizing a bid.

Yesterday afternoon I noticed that 1450 was silent again. Wonder what that means? They were only back on for about 3 days playing the same hour of music over and over.
As I understand it, the FCC is beginning to lose patience with people who put a station on the air to reset the silent STA clock just to shut it down again a week or so later. Cumulus would be advised to be careful or they may find themselves without a license to to sell before it's all over. Particularly if someone were to file an informal complaint if they file again for a silent STA.
