1450 WASK Update

There's a little bit more news on the status of 1450 WASK in Lafayette.

It looks like they will be spliting the simulcast to carry the NCAA Basketball Tournaments according to WASK.com. Could a sports station be on the horizon?

Let the speculation begin...
Edited by Apollo79 on 03/08/06 08:51 PM.

Very interesting. In my opinion, a BigTen town without a sports station is insane. Did anyone up there even broadcast Lafayette Catholic in the state finals???

And while we're on the subject of WASK... they recently had a great mention in the Lafayette paper!

Great story about a great broadcasting institution in Indiana. I live in Wisconsin now, but used to work in Logansport for WSAL/WLHM in the late 80's.
Lafayette should definitely have a sports talk station, and if what you say is true, I hope it's a success.

One question: Is the author of this story the same Max Showalter, who served as news director at WASK for a number of years? If it is, I find it ironic that he is writing a newspaper story about his old employer.

Whether it harbors the new format I don't know. I was in town yesterday and heard the promo for the NCAA, and it looks like they have a lot of sponsors.

Wonder if you'd be anyone I know from WSAL? Drop me a note at the e-mail in my profile.
______________

The NCAA Tournament is a go on 1450.

As for a format that's separate from it's FM sister, that's still wishful thinking, but I have heard rumors of either all sports or news/talk by day and sports at night. I don't know which one is true, if any. Mark holds the key to that bit of information, and I'm sure he doesn't want to give out any more teases about the future of 1450 WASK that he already has. I know I wouldn't.

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Good luck to everyone at McCarty whose involved in the new venture. It's already starting to sound like a success from a sponsorship standpoint. :)

It is the same guy. He joined J&C a while back. An old high school radio mate of mine was at SAL in the late eighties - Mike Montgomery. I spent a short time in Logan, putting 103.7 on the air. Hope I don't have nightmares tonite now after those thoughts.
