1460 WEMR

Fybush/NERW reporting WEMR 1460/Tunkhannock is off the air after their contract to carry "Cozy 104" programming ends. They are currently silent, awaiting installation of computer equipment to carry a News/Talk format.

My question is, instead of doing dark, why not slap a temporary format on there? Maybe make a deal with a local TV or radio station to fill the signal? Or, have a raffle where one lucky (presumed radio geek) listener gets to run "whatever (s)he wants" until the new station launches? Or, even a bunch of listeners where one selected winner runs the joint for a week? It always perplexes me, altho' it just spells out how little people (in the biz and out) care about AM.

I love all those ideas.

When I started here, I ran whatever I wanted.. game show theme songs, tv tunes, oldies music, just a legal id loop, christmas music for 30 days until the format launched January 1st.

However, I beleive WEMR is running a tube transmitter and the electricity alone would run $2000+ a month anbd they just don't wanna eat that charge to let someone play radio.

I'm not sure I understand.... The company's simulcast deal with ITSELF has come to an end?

Destroyer,

Scott Fybush misquoted the text of the STA. "THE CURRENT PROGRAM FEED IS COMING TO AN END DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF MARCH OF 2007" is the wording from the STA. WEMR was rebroadcasting WCOZ, 103.9, Laporte, PA. WCOZ changed format the first week of March of 2007 and is now 60's and 70's oldies. WEMR discontinued the rebroadcast because of the WCOZ format change. Work on the revised WEMR continues.

I got the honors of turning off the lights at WEMR after the Citadel buyout. They needed to have "management" there for a couple of weeks while they got FCC o.k. to feed from Baltimore Drive..Problem was, is it or isn't it within the 25 mile radius..Using FAA sectionals I can say it was 25.1 miles..So, where I was to go to the News dept within a couple of weeks, and then to program Cat Country when it first made the format switch turned into almost a year of babysitting the public files. Bill Betz who constantly thanked me for hanging on and it would be made up when the distance problem was resolved then left because he was fed up, and Regina Todd (who never should have been anywhere near a GM office except to ask if the GM wanted it black or with cream and sugar) brought in an automation system for "Music of Your Death", and on good friday I was quickly dismissed as she had to go to church. Almost a year off air had killed my career and I decided to travel other paths which brought me to South Carolina and a very well paying job with Verizon Wireless where I get rather nice semi-annual bonuses and if I work a holiday, I get double and a half. Miss the old way, but for those of you in your 20's and 30's, look around..How many people stay in the biz long enough to retire..either you'll be selling cars or die long before your time. Not being negative, just showing the facts..I don't think a 60 year old Frankie will have much to offer..Listen to Cuzin Brucie on Sirius..He's just a shell of his former self.

In my own defense here...I quoted the STA accurately in the March 12 NERW (http://www.fybush.com/NERW/2007/070312/nerw.html#pa). Rockin Rob misquoted me in the original post in this thread.

Best of luck getting the "new" WEMR back up and running! :)

I....I did? Who? what? Where???? That'll NEVER happen! This is an outrage!!!!

Ok, ok, in all seriousness, if I did, I am terribly sorry, Scott. I enjoy your work and it was probably at a late hour when I read it. Either that or the coffee didnt fully kick in yet.'
