Well, we saw it up north when Nassau blew up the Music-of-Your-Life station in Belfast in favor of the 150-song Frank format.

Now they put a Maine radio legend out to pasture, and trashed a standards format that did VERY well for a small AM.

If you're 55 and older, apparently Nassau doesn't want your business. Or they just don't know how to sell spots on stations that target people with money to spend.

Here's hoping their children don't treat their elders with the same disregard.

I suppose the quickest way to let NASSAU know that you're not happy with their programming choices is NOT to support their advertisers? It's amazing how many advertisers WON'T BUY TIME on any radio station that ticks their listeners off!

Unfortunately you are making a very good and valid point. Don't know what the fear and phobia is about having an audience of older mature listeners with money to spend. BTW...Some WLAM listeners may be able to pick up WJTO-730 from Bath. With just 1000 watts, it mostly covers midcoast Maine, but I pick them up quite well driving up 295/95 from Portland right thru Augusta. Signal holds on my car radio until just north of Waterville. The signal also gets out fairly well west of Portland into Standish and Sebago area. A good radio would help, but I am sure a fair signal gets into the Lewiston Auburn area. For die-hard listners it might be worth trying. Bob Bittner runs a great standards/easy-listening format on WJTO.

Note to folks going to their website:

Don't have your speakers up too high!

The music BLASTS at ya right out of the gate!!!<P ID="signature">______________
"What's That?" "French Horns!"

Harron killed it first! Harron, under the guise of "WMTW Broadcast Group", canned the successful standards format on the North Windham 106.7 and the Gorham 870, which simulcasted as WLAM/WLAM-FM "The Jewel". Once the News-Talk 106.7 WMTW started, the WLAM calls and format were dumped to 1470 for a few months, before 1470 began relaying WMTW's news format.

Nassau brought the legend back to life, and Nassau put it out to pasture.

Standards may be back on 1470.... if history repeats itself (again). 1470 has had at least 3 bouts with standards, even going back to the 1470-WZOU days of the mid-late 80's. 1470 changes format every 24 months on average. By the way, 1470-WLAM's format was a cross between standards and non-rock 50's-60's-70's oldies which was a good-sounding format, but with a limited playlist. -- But this change is no surprise. Most station-owning companies are more interested in a smaller audience of 18-49 people than 3 times the listeners who average 45--to-75 (age).... you know those over-45's who pay their entire balance at the end of the month, buy only what they need, don't impulse-buy, etc etc... how un-American!

You're talking about a station that had decent ratings but made no money. Bottom line is make the $$$.
