1470- Unknown Station (Northeastern IL)

I am a new member. For nearly the last two weeks, 1470 AM in northeastern IL (at least) at night has had interference from some pop music station. I know it's not Radio Satan (Disney). I listen to WCFJ (when they are playing better music) and WMBD (Glenn Beck- Comedy). I have heard this unknown station identify itself, but whenever it does: 1. It fades away before I hear the call letters, 2. WMBD obscures the signal. Does anyone know of a station on 1470 AM, in my area, that plays rubbish music and nasty, Ad Council PSAs for their commercial breaks?

Perhaps you can define 'rubbish music' for us and we could help you find the source of your consternation.

BTW, welcome to the boards. ;)

LOL! Very apropos (particularly here in Pittsburgh where their IBOC buzzer wipes
out 80 kHz of my AM band)

Could be 500w KFMZ Brookfield, MO if they are on day power. Night is 20w.

I would agree you might be hearing KFMZ 1470 in Brookfield, Mo., which simulcasts KZBK 96.9 - a satellite-fed Hot AC format.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Rubbish music to me would be mainstream pop music, mostly current. I'm talking about Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and just about anyone associated with American Idol and its clones. Yea, I call it Radio Satan because when you think about what they play (regardless of whether or not the songs are edited), you know it's not meant for mature children.

Back to our question. Crainbebo, if I am not mistaken, is right. I did hear 96.9 FM as part of this station's ID. I will try again and let you know if he/she is right. I love to DX for many reasons, and I have been doing so literally every night since 12/13/2008.

One last thing, I did mention that whatever station this is, plays a string or airs mostly Ad Council PSAs during commercial breaks. By "nasty," I mean: Annoying, preachy, widespread, irritating. They have to stop reading these with such strange voices, mushy music, and return to the ad campaigns they had years ago. Their older ads drove the points home beautifully. I will make another thread about this, but I wanted to bring this your attention. Thanks for a fun first discussion.
