1480 smooth jazz no more.

JJZ has been gone on 1480 for about 3 years now. It first became the softer-AC “Breakthrough Radio” before becoming a FOX Sports Radio affiliate last year.

Smooth Jazz JJZ does live on at 106.1 HD2

At some point a few months ago, the smooth jazz on WISX HD2 switched from being the locally produced JJZ to being a slightly localized version of the Smooth Jazz Network. It’s the exact same programming now with local ID's and a few more commercials.

I just discovered 610 isn’t playing schmaltzy MOR tunes anymore.

Several years back, I had my Grundig S450 out in the Boyer's parking lot during light snow in Elysburg PA while the wife and mother-in-aw were inside shopping.

1480 has been vacant up here since local WISL Shamokin left the air for good. The frequency, since, has been very friendly for us DXers.

WDAS indeed was atop the 1480 muddle, weak but fading only every-so-often. Back then they doing their Philadelphia pop music thing. I know I'm likely confusing their wardrobe changes with those of WHAT, but can't they make up their minds? Instead, PHL gets the punctual sign put up 'Grand Opening! Now under the same old management'.

While I was spinning the radio in the lot, lol, a group of young people were on a smoke break. The one who was the biggest, or the oldest, whatever, gave me a polite 'Excuse me, can I help you?' routine.
Some here will confirm that it's easier to convey, convincingly, the spirit of DXing to a state trooper than to a guy who has probably never tuned a radio in his life.

Please forgive my memory loss lol.. I remember it being off of 1480, I should’ve clarified that it’s not on 104.1 anymore.

Ohhh okay makes more sense. This is why I have an HD radio, to hear JJZ on WISX-HD2. Probably one of five people who have that as a preset in their car.

WDAS-FM (and AM) are both historically important stations. Such a rich history of broadcasting here in Philly, along with WMMR and KYW. Philly radio is actually quite unique and fascinating.

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't DAS-F progressive underground in the mid to late 60's, before becoming R&B, even before MMR switched to the Marconi experiment. I know I heard Hyski and my fathers son, the owners kid, playing the long version of In a gadda da vita.
