It's clearly to keep the license. Oddly enough, the Wikipedia page for this station seems to have some very good information on this situation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KBXD

It would be cool if the format stuck around. Its definitely a nice throwback to the country days of KBOX. I can't get it very good up here in Fannin County, I suspect they aren't running at full power. Although I have no idea if they ever built out that CP for 50 kW.
I believe KBXD did get the power increase. Last year I caught 1480 very strong about 15 miles out of Lawton OK on I-44 running a religious teaching program in the afternoon. I wish the new owners would do something different with 1480 than broker it out (yeah dream on).
I just happen to punch on my good ol’ 1480 button on my radio yesterday morning 2/22/16 and heard classic country music. Modulation was low with minimal processing and playlist was maybe 30 minutes long. Song cuts did seque this time AND a “wonderful KBOX in Dallas” Jingle aired. That was pretty cool. Heard them again in downtown Dallas during evening drive home and abruptly off air at 6:35pm. In my driveway in Rockwall later that night they were back on with same playlist heard earlier. Nothing the next day. Similar to the last Dec transmission.
Been hearing 1480 all morning long, still on right now spinning country tunes and some oldies here and there. I haven't heard a station ID the times I listened. Signal is distant but strong in Fannin County, still strong enough to splatter on 1470 and 1490.
Listened today myself for about an hour around noon today. Sounded strong and very clear here in the Hurst-Euless Bedford part of Tarrant County. Good daytime signal!
