1490 Frankfort Español

It's been Spanish for several months now. Have not seen any promotion about it, however.

I noticed the former WFKY is now a Spanish speaking station. Any details?

I would occasionally tune their way, but not often. They've been Spanish for several months with absolutely zero (that I've seen) local promotion. Maybe they're being promoted in Spanish newspapers, etc. but I haven't seen one thing in the 'mainstream' local press. I also hear zero cross-promotion on 103.7 or 104.9.

1490 had gone to hell in a hand basket anyway, so this may not be much of a risk for them.

I never understood why they never migrated 1490's programming to 104.9. They should have done that twenty years ago when WKED-FM signed on. But what can you do?

As long as Russ Hatter was on 1490, they had an audience. CC ran Hatter off during their ownership, and 1490 has not been much since. Though from 2003 or so until about 2006 they were a mighty fine oldies jukebox. I don't remember hearing many ads, though. Then they tried "talk" and lost their way. 104.9 sounds pretty good these days even not as the next generation of 1490. And 103.7's music selection has vastly improved since Forever took over from CC. So, to quote Meatloaf, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Just after CC took over, didn't they simlucast the same programming on 940 and 1490?

Yes until CC sold. Then 940 programming split off 1490, probably because they were sold to separate entities.

One of the best to work at WFKY was Harv Moore who went on to WPGC in Washington DC and, was last reported still working in radio in Buffalo NY. This was in the early 1960s.
