Howdy to all. With a slow Saturday on my agenda, I took a little drive over to the east side of the loop in Tyler. My adventure to the former KDOK TX and studio site for your viewing pleasure.
Nice ride.Howdy to all. With a slow Saturday on my agenda, I took a little drive over to the east side of the loop in Tyler. My adventure to the former KDOK TX and studio site for your viewing pleasure.
1490 still broadcasts from there?More:
Thanks, Ryan. I like her.
Well, the signal at 1490lHz emanates from there. The broadcasts originate from Chuck Conrad over in Kilgore.1490 still broadcasts from there?
KRWR, I do believe. K-DOK translator K239CB also calls it home. It's antenna is the Shively at a little better than 100 meters up the tower. The whole thing is 122 meters. What is the three bay fm at the top?
Have you been inside the studio building, Chuck? Unless the roof is caved in, and it doesn't appear so from ground level on the outside, I'd imagine there would be some vintage treasures in there suitable for the museum.KYZS, 1490 AM, which simulcasts KDOK (Kilgore) is on the tower along with it's 95.7 FM translator. Also KRWR transmits from this location as well. Even though the old KDOK building is looking like a haunted house, the transmitter building is pretty nice and well equipped. The site belongs to ATW Media who also owns KTBB. I have a lease agreement with them,
I suspect it was broken into several times before the steel plates were installed, welding the doors shut. But, that is just conjecture. I do know the Tyler police like to hide behind the bushes, waiting for speeders on the loop.Saw the steel plates, which worries me that someone has already gone in and destroyed the interior. It's like a fortress there, now, but was it secured in time to stop any vandalism? That's my curiosity. Before mother nature took it over, the property looked in pretty in good shape, albeit a bit dated. I came back home a little better than 20 years ago, and it was already vacant, but looked as if it was still in fair shape.
At least the guard lights outside still worked at that point. From what I saw on Saturday, the meter to the building has been pulled and the electrical feed was lifeless and draped over the cyclone fence. It must be pretty dark out there at night. I'm simply not that brave to find out.
