1490

I'm not very good at Spanish formats, but it was Spanish when I checked it out a while ago.

I believe they were recently sold to the operator of "the Word" 99.3 licensed to Thorndale. I heard the new owner was going to make the 1490 full-time Spanish Christian.

Yeah that would be REO Radio Group. Looks like BMP filed for an extension on the consummation on 03/02/10 and today they actually did file it with the FCC so it should be granted in a day or so.

Is it still Radio Vision run by Iglesia Amistad Cristiana or is REO programming their own Spanish Christian format?

The Radio Vision website is still up but their live stream doesn't seem to work for me. It just buffers and buffers and never plays.

Spanish Christian....with no disrespect intended to anyone who speaks Spanish or is a Christian...that's end-of-life for a signal that's a big part of Austin's radio history. Sigh.......

With all due respect, the entire AM band is nearing end-of-life.

Yea, it's still sad, though.

Been meaning to ask you this... but what brings you to such an assumption?

The evidence seems to point to it. The AM audience is, by and large, old and getting older. True, there are some AM's that still do well 25-54, like some of the all sports stations, but even your AM news/talkers that are #1 12+ frequently don't even rank in the top-10 25-54. After WTOP moved to FM and KSL added the FM simulcast, they shot back up in 25-54 ratings to where they were a decade ago.

KFON 1490 is now "La Palabra" which is Spanish for "The Word" which happens to be their new English language sister station, KLGO. Interestingly they're also using "Iluminando su vida" or "Illuminating your life." I wonder if that's a swipe at "The Candle" KNLE?

Hmmm...interesting. Is it just prayer programs or are they playing Spanish Christian music as well?

I see that www.lapalabra1490.com forwards to their English website right now.

Gee, I didn't know the 'Candle' could pay their electric bill, I guess thats why they have to use a 'Candle' !

That's actually pretty funny. I needed that at 3:37am while I'm stuck doing the night shift, thanks.

I'm still waiting for a station called "El Chupacabra."
