15 Minutes from anywhere?

In the last couple of years, I have heard a car dealership and a restaurant use the phrase "15 minutes from anywhere" in their commercials. Why do they say this? It doesn't make any sense. I can barely drive the distance of McKnight Road in 15 minutes let alone drive across town in that time. Wouldn't it be more honest to say something like "conveniently located". I realize this is not a major issue but it is a pet peeve I have in regards to local commercials. Any thoughts?

If that's what sticks in your head, then consider the advertiser's mission accomplished.

You didn't mention the advertiser. By any chance was that a restaurant chain with multiple locations? I can think of one in particular that after years and years of only one location in the Strip District now has so many new locations that they are "15 minutes from anywhere". And, if my shaky memory serves, there is a car dealership company that has locations in Monroeville, Robinson, somewhere up in the North Hills and maybe a few other places. Perhaps that's what was being referred to.

When you think about it, who isn't 15 minutes away from a McDonalds or a Giant Eagle?

Great point Biz Listener. I agree that if it is a company like McDonalds, Wal Mart etc. that they are literally 15 minutes from anywhere. ( There are so many of them, it is probably more like 5 minutes from anywhere LOL ). I researched the specific companies in question though and found that the car dealer has one location in White Oak (certainly not 15 minutes from anywhere) and the restaurant is a small independent that does not have coverage all over Western Pennsylvania. In these cases I still don't think the claims make any sense and that they could have used the precious advertising time to make a cliaim that actually makes sense. The other point is with radio stations streaming literally all over the world on the internet, unless you are an international company, maybe you should think twice about making claims about the time it takes to get to your establishment. Again, a minor point. More of a pet peeve that I have.
