1510 kHz .... Your Most Wanted unID

Even when that 1510 Boston station was on the air, 1510 always had been a freaky nighttime DX place for us back in the 60's, back near JFK Airport. Sometimes WMEX would blast in with Arnie 'Woo Woo' Ginsberg, and sometimes WLAC Nashville would devour the frequency. The dichotomy was weird, as each of those two big signals was designed to protect the other.

Here, 20 years later in NE PA, I DO have my most wanted station. One day on a paint job I heard WRNJ Hackettstown NJ identify. And I have it TAPED, hi! Linda heard it as 'WINJ', so that's a good enough QSL for me. I had to null the snot out of downstate country WWSM to hear 'em.

So what's left for my Want List on 1510 ? Heck -- I've already heard the Boston station here. So what else ?!?!?
WLAC !! They are not on my official log.

So what new 1510 station do you folks want in your Halloween candy basket?

* * * * * *

I figure at this rate of my frequency descent posts and Cyberdad's ascending inquiries, we should have a neat collision on 1360 sometime in January.

Anything other then KCKK Denver, which i hear nearly 24/7 here in Laramie, WY 130-140 miles away. I do hear KFNN Mesa, AZ pre sunset sometimes.. and the only time ive heard anything other then those t wo is when KCKK ran an open carrier one night and I nabbed KGA Spokane or when KCKK was off after a massive snowstorm and i nabbed KMSD Milbank, SD

I always wanted to hear Arnie "Woo Woo" Ginsburg and WMEX here in the Chicago area, but WLAC always dominated. Tried for, but never heard KGA Spokane.

Unfortunately you all will likely never copy KGA Spokane again. How the mighty have fallen. What was once "The Trucker's Station" with 50k/50k somewhat directional east-west, to 50/15 quite directional (2011) to allow co-owned station in the Bay Area to increase power, to now (this year) 50/.54 on one stick only. Hoo boy, big 540 screamin' watts. Of course at this point, it is to keep the FM translator lit.

50kw at night and serving half of western America may be overkill these days for some stations

By far, it's KOAZ Isleta/Albuquerque NM. Smooth Jazz as The Oasis, repeating 103.7, this station has eluded me ever since it came on. The 4200 watt critical hours signal should be enough to get under KGA, but it never does. I've heard KFNN, the defunct KLLB, KCKK, etc. but never Albuquerque.

1510 should be coming up on Frequency of the Week soon so I'll save my WLAC reception comments. I'd like to hear a station I've only heard on the Arctic SDR, KCKK, Littleton CO.

I've had a few brief moments of weak KOAZ Reception here in Laramie at sunrise....

My most wanted was the 1510 from Waukesha, WI. (Milwaukee market). I finally snagged it earlier this year at my home location. 23kw daytimer, but I'm in a very deep null, so I had never heard it. Then one afternoon several months ago, I heard it and got a positive ID.

Victory!! (seriously)

I swear if I ever hear an ID one sunrise for 'New Mexico's 103.7 the Oasis' on 1510, I WILL do a victory dance. They are my #1 most-wanted, probably on any channel. Why? I am a regular listener online. Their mix of jazz, Latin guitar and R&B vocals is nearly unmatched. Fun fact - the PD Steve Hibbard, who I think is still at KOAZ (albeit not doing a show anymore...he was doing After Hours in the evenings until a couple years ago), used to be the PD for the Jones Smooth Jazz service. He also was an on-air personality there.

Sounds like a good, listen. I'll make it a point to check it out.
