1510 POWER AND CITADEL

Just looking at the washington state board. Citadel KGA 1510 sold to mapleton has downgraded from Class A to Class B with less nightime power. KPIG 1510 San Fran has application for increased nightime power possibly they can do that since KGA is downgrading. Can 1510 KFNN move to a class B and increase nightime power or are there other 1510's to consider. Then maybe they could compete at night.

KSPA in Ontario has already filed for an upgrade on 15~Ten that pretty much boxes KFNN in with their nighttime authorization of a blazing 100 watts coming out of four sticks. Plus the Denver 15~Ten skywaves pretty well into Phoenix at night. But Nurse Jeff and I question why KFNN would want to spend the $$ to improve the nightime signal when their audience pretty much punches out after 6pm? They could revert to last winter's stategy of lowering power an hour and a half after sunset and keep what listeners remained happy with 22kw!

Doc,

I believe that KFNN can go to the south and more to the southeast on a 1 kw DN auth,
and hold that same directional pattern during the day somewhere near an additional 3-4 kw.

I still have not done the propogation but it's only an estimate that KFNN could easily drive Tucson, and possibly towards Silver City, Bisbee & Willcox at night.

Tucson would be a real plus for Cohen.

I bet the apps are already filled out complete with comments.

Being as KFNN is licensed to Mesa, it would be nice to actually HEAR it at night in Mesa! All I hear is the Denver area station...

Nurse Jeff and I haven't seen any FCC filings by KFuNN to increase night power yet. However good ol K-Spa in Ontario has filed for 50kw day; 45kw critical hours; and 6kw nights. That would not only complicate things for KFNN, but pretty much eliminate 1500 from ever coming back on in the LA basin (it's been dark since the mid 80's).

They can't compete. They are AM. ;)

...but they've got more towers than an FM station. Doesn't that make KFuNN more competitive? ::)

From the FCC ruling granting the KGA & KPIG CPs: "...the Rules generally prohibits the filing of contingent applications for new stations or for the modification of existing stations. It does, however, provide an exception for contingent applications whose grant would “reduce interference to one or more AM stations or otherwise increase the area of interference-free service..." The FCC also notes one reason to grant the KGA/KPIG CPs is that several Class D stations could upgrade their nighttime.

A station not involved in the original applications would have to wait until the other stations get their license. Then it's a race to the Commish. That's what happened when WOWO downgraded. http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-08-1660A1.doc

The only things those towers are good for are being a shishkabob for hot air balloons, and pylons for stunt pilots. Still not hot enough to cook a steak on.

yeah, but they share those sticks with KKNT and the world Nurse Jeff and I know would certainly come to an end without 9~Sixty!
