1520 KOKC: The Comeback is for real!

On March 25th, 2015, the Moore, OK, tornado smashed right into KOKC's 50kw facilities. As a result, there were forced to go 10kw non-directional the immediate future. Nearly seven years later, KOKC is ready to go back to the old 50kw pattern, but with new towers. On February 4th, 2022, they filed with the FCC a permit that would allow them to go 50,000 watts non-directional daytime, but directional to the north-west at night. This should accordingly improve reception for those of you who live in the city, but who this really benefits is the DXers of the inter-mountain region, and the nostalgic. This 50kw night signal should in particular be strong in my area of South-east Wyoming.
Either way, welcome back, KOKC Oklahoma City, you truly are the comeback kid. 🄳

Actually, theyve done better at night.. much better, in the local area, including the SE part of the city like Norman where a local high school leases time to air their football games

This is news to me. Glad the blowtorch will be re-lit. The only thing I wish would/could happen is changing the format back to an oldies 60's and 70's format. I know that's wishful dreaming because there's no market for it, so please no harsh comments for it. I'm just thinking about the DX listeners who have no overnight AM music if they're on the road.

If it was possible to stay at 10/12.5kw non directional night time permanently, theyd have been smart to.... they have much better coverage locally that way, at night. But they wouldnt be able to get that much at night, permanently, Non D
