1520 KYND

Afternoon drive, hearing a show called "Shuffle", or something like that. Music all over the place. Interesting to hear, and on AM to boot. Sounded like a brokered program, but wasn't sure. They broke for "Chinese News" at the top of the hour (this was 4 pm on Monday).

They have a trio of stations here - 1500, 1520, 1540. I'm not sure what demographic they are after - Chinese expatriots here, or propaganda to make Americans more sympathetic to the communist regime over there. If it is the latter, I wish they had a better consultant for music director. They could, potentially, fill the format hole for oldies / classic hits here. If they did, they have a fair trio of coverage area that could really generate some interest. I have absolutely no interest in the Chinese news, but I'd tolerate it if they played a good oldies format the other 55 minutes of the hour.

Yes, the Shuffle is all over the road. The playlist seems fairly limited as it seems Steph does not have much of a library to choose from (she wished they had Riderrs On The Storm by the Doors in her library). The Shuffle is 2-5pm. They come back at 6 with Country Hits. There are a few other music shows as well, all commercial free.

It is fun hearing songs you never hear on AM anymore. I am there at KYND wondering what this 22 year old lady is going to toss on next.

Not sure the target audience either but I know some shows come out of Los Angeles. Fridays at 5 there's an interview show from Los Angeles.

This also happened at 1540 KGBC January 2010. KYND was next. The link below will provide information about the former Radio (Peking) Beijing founded on December 3 of 1941, and is one of the three state-owned media in China along with China National Radio and China Central Television in the People's Republic of China. It's now known as China Radio International. Their aim is promoting understanding and friendship between the people of China and people throughout the world with 30 overseas bureaus. It also adopts the government stance on issues, such as Taiwan being an integral part of the People's Republic of China.

And just this September, the CRI now broadcasts in Boston.

Now you can hear the Communist government of China on the US Mainland.

Well, there's always Amazon. For 99 cents she can get an MP3 download of "Riders on the Store" and can keep it forever! (Funny ITunes doesn't have it)

You've been able to do that for decades if you had a shortwave radio. ;D

Very true! However you and I both know that many do not have a shortwave radio, much less those who don't even know what one is. ;D

As expected, since a co-owned station on 1520 moved closer to San Antonio, KYND has applied to increase their power. What's surprising is the amount of the increase, from 3,000 to 25,000 watts. That would mean moving from their Cypress location to a site north of Pattison, putting it about 12 miles northwest of Katy. It would still be a daytimer, with a pattern concentrated more or less southeast, toward the New Territory and Rosenberg area.

The application is, shall we say, sorely lacking in graphic details. But a plot of the proposed pattern is at: www.fccinfo.com/CMDProEngine.php?sCurrentService=AM&tabSearchType=Appl&sAppIDNumber=1452529&sHours=C A map of the proposed site is available there as well.
