1520: Your Most Wanted Station

Now many LA and many more California stations in general throw their night signals out into the Pacific in order to run more power.

The biggest change since the 60's in LA, Pacific-aimed signal wise, was KGBS becoming KTNQ and going from a daytimer to a 50 kw fulltime station.

When I was PD there in the mid-90's, we got many calls from Hawaii during the overnight talk show, and the show's host got to recognize some of them by their voice.

Others that have increased the night signal towards the Pacific include 830 from Orange County and 1150 (which shares a site with KTNQ).

The old KRLA on 1110 used to send alot of their night signal into the Pacific. In the 70s I heard them at night in Hawaii. Speaking of KGBS, I was in LA in the 60s when they were only a 50KW daytime station. However, on Monday mornings in the 60s they were allowed to go back on the air late Sunday nights/Monday morning when KDKA was off for maintenance.
