1530 Is Amateurish

Here is what I heard a few days ago on ESPN 1530:

1. Network audio playing under local break audio. A few times that night.

2. Afternoon sportscaster Lindsay Patterson. Sounds like a 15-yr. old teeny-bopper.

3. Lance McAllister talked for a few minutes about the results of his son's Knothole games and then a commentary on how great the umpiring is in his kid's league.

Is this market in the mid-20s or mid-200s?

I agree, Where are the live sports dates every 20 minutes? Where's the local programming in morning drive? I say program 1530 like the old WBOB 1160. That was an entertaining lineup.

I think Fox & ESPN cut back to updates every 30 minutes because of lot of listeners get scores via web & phone apps and wanted more talk content. I drive a lot so the 20 minute updates were nice, especially on Saturdays in football & basketball seasons.

This is one of the worst, most amateurish sounding sports stations I've heard in any market. You will easily hear better local sports programming in markets a third this size. WCKY is absurdly awful. And the chick that does the imaging is just as bad, imo. Seems like she's been around since "The Revolution of Talk Radio" or whatever they called their libtalk experiment. Don't know what it is but her voice and delivery just grate on my nerves.

If Cincinnati could have a local version of WFAN on 1530 that wold be ideal. I doubt it will happen as long as Cheap Channel is running it. Not a fan of ESPN Radio.

You should listen overnight when Brother Stair is on. I've heard BOTH Brother Stair and ESPN running at the same time on more than one occasion.. For sure, there ar Lots of programming mistakes on 1530... You would think they could at least employ a low paid board op to oversee things 24/7....

Agreed. Yesterday during Mo's show we were treated to several minutes of Lindsay and Mo competing in a spelling be while Lindsay giggled like a teenager.

Today we were treated to Lance Mcalister bragging about his iphone and new apps. This stuff wouldn't fly in any other market.

I think I'd rather listen to Brother Stair than Lance "No Pants!" And Mo must Go!!!

Brother Stair and other "talk" programming (non-sports) usually starts at 1 AM most mornings on 1530. On the weekends, I think it starts later than that. Clear Channel has sold the overnight hours "to anyone who will pay" for many years.

There is no question that WCKY Homer is poorly programmed. Clear Channel clearly shows they have no idea how to not only program the station but make some serious revenue.

I understand Mike & Mike are good but this market wants local sports talk in morning drive about the Reds, Bengals, U.C., Xavier and so on. Mo is a someone I believe can get better if you had a PD who would work with him. The market demands a local show that is well produced.

I would go with the following line up on 1530:

5:30 to 9 Local Host with traffic and weather (yes a sports station should give the weather in this day part) You never want to give the listener a reason to check another station for an iimportant element such as a weather forecast.

9 to Noon Dan Patrick

Noon to 3pm Jim Rome ( I am not a fan but he will do for lack of another program being available) I would love to hear Seg here

3 to 6 pm Lance

6 pm and on - Fox Sports

Yes Homer has been done this road before but they need top return ESPN to 1360.

One of the two stations need to make a committment to high school sports. I have said it before you can make a ton of money off high school sports. I could have made over $2,500 to $3,000 off the Maderia State baseball game today and more than that on the Lakota East state championship game Saturday. C.C. has never understood how high school sports can bring you a fresh added revenue stream and new listeners to the station.

On Lindsay being on the air is a joke. She sounds like someone who would be on a high school radio station. Again it is very easy to tell the PD is not doing his job. Her content is poorly written and put together. Today I heard no scores on the Maderia state game.

If C.C. ever wanted to really make money off the station and gain some new listeners they need to get a new PD and a GM who actually cares about the two stations.

I am not the only one who could hep them a great deal because of my sports programming experience. There are experienced pros who are spread out through out the state and none of them work for C.C.

Unfortunately, there seem to be too many hosts who for all apparent reasons, like to hear themselves talk - and talk - and talk (and at me instead of to me). It's like the incoming telephone calls aren't available. Too many also go out of their way to make remarks that they know will result in phone calls - that is when they get to them.

It is interesting that some of these programmers are still buying sky wave.
I thought that this was a dying category.

Maybe 1530 should hold an all local, open mike deal. Amateur sports talk wannabes.

"How about it Cincinnati? Got what it takes to host a sports talk show? Here's your chance...."

No payroll. Give em all a cut of the action, if there is any.

Yeah - They'd LOVE the no payroll part - they're damned close to it anyway!!!

Jry, I think he was being sarcastic.

I kinda liked your idea...similar to what WTAN does in Tampa. You'll occasionally get some really God-awful programming, but apparently some gems come through too. It's total train wreck radio, but....I enjoy the bizaareness of it.
