Fresno / Central Valley 1550 is the 3rd Fresno AM being silent

How about those that are from an organization like the Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Church of Latter Day Saints, Meals on Wheels, etc...Are those PAID ads, and not PSA's? I always thought non profits were always PSA's.

They can be, but (again) there is no requirement for stations to carry PSAs at no charge, so the point is moot.

Given your comment, it may well be that what I was hearing was paid-for advertisements though, as you state, they were for local non-profits.
I think John O. (i'd have to look it up to spell it) is pretty active in the community. Even the One Putt studios double as an art gallery/gathering place. I was invited there one day by a now former employee and there were 15 cases of beer being put on ice for a party later that night (I guess my friend didn't have the power to get us in!) it's really hard to say exactly what kind of wheelin' and dealin' is taking place.

KYNO has a morning show with Harry Miller. From the bio, he was a popular afternoon jock back when he started at KYNO in 1971. He could be the reason that has local businesses advertising on his show, as opposed to the rest of the day. My feeling is the owner has got enough money (wealthy?) that finding advertisers the rest of the day is not a priority.

Just seeing this...

Harry Miller was at KYNO from sometime in 1969 to March of 1971. He then went to KGB in San Diego, where he was Johnny Mitchell (and John-Paul for a brief period after Ron Jacobs took them in an album direction in the spring of 1972. That summer, he went to KFRC, where he became Eric Chase. He went to KIQQ in Los Angeles in January of 1974 and then moved to KFI in 1979.

They also have Rick Alan on Saturdays 6-9 am. He supposedly was on KYNO in the mid 70's during the 'Shazam' (?) period.

So, back to my original thread title- I thot I'd see if the 1st of the new year might have brought any changes on the 'missing' Fresno AMs. Sure enough, there's 1550 back with their same hillbilly preachers with their same gospel of white supremacy and love of Trump. Still IDing the 102.3 translator that hasn't been on air in 3 or 4 years.

In this case, I wouldn't mind if 1550 went defunct permanently. That kind of "speech" helps no one.

I found 1210 on after being silent for long time (6 months or more?) The signal is erratic- I wonder if its emitter is malfunctioning or intentional adjustments being made. BUT program is the same as what's on 1550.

RE: KXEX Fowler . Submitted today

Request for Silent STA
KQEQ-AM, Fowler, CA
Facility ID# 33252
Reason for Request

On 1/22/2026, station KQEQ-AM went silent due to a loss of power at the transmitter site. It was
unknown at that time if there was station equipment failure or if a recent power surge from PG&E
led to further damage. An engineering assessment has not been able to be completed due to
extenuating circumstances which will be overcome soon.

A notice of suspension had been submitted on 1.22.26. See LMS0000289227
