1560 is clear!

Has the new transmitter finally been installed? An aircheck at 2:45pm has KGOW/Bellaire clear as a bell at I-45 and Parametta heading southbound. Tell me, O Lord, that the transmitter issue is finally fixed.

I noticed this morning it was noticeably clearer around the West Loop/Galleria/Memorial area. Granato was also making a big deal of the "past" signal problems and thanking listeners for sticking around through the beginning. Sounds like the new transmitter is in to me. Now let's see if they have the muscle to compete for real.

Hmmm I have to go to Lake Charles tomorrow...though thats out of the main path, I'll see if it helped any to the east....

Signal upgrade? Now more people can hear a really bad radio station.

Still curious if the old transmitter was declared a lemon and they got an entirely new replacement unit at a discount?

KGOW solid into Cy-Fair this morning. But, alas, the lack of a night signal is about to bite them big time, as Daylight Saving Time ends a week from Sunday, which kills their afternoon drive.

Listened to 1560 while mowing my yard in Beaumont this morning. Had some interference from some Mexican station that I couldn't identify.

Highway 90A and FM 359, totally unreadable at 11:30AM

That's probably right in the middle of that Navasota null...but you should, at least, be able to hear it.

Good question. Interesting to note, though, that besides the transmitter issue there were numerous problems with transmission lines and such. In other words, an engineer's worst nightmare.

Hopefully they can get their home-brew 100-watt night rig up and running before too long. Stangely enough, even with a minimal above ground radial system construction should be fairly easy. But they're still going to need the KLVL simulcast since coverage from the new site won't be anything spectacular, and they'll need to start it earlier in the evening.

I also noticed that the latest modified nighttime application addresses the issue about the alleged interference that KGOW might cause to the KOCY Oklahoma City. They made some changes to the proposed pattern, mainly tucking it in a little to the NNW. Besides arguing that KMIC's complaints were uncalled for, they also answered the FCC's observation about the new site providing "zero %" nighttime interference-free coverage of Bellaire. The latest proposal indicates 100% NIF coverage. (Well, duh...we're talking 19,000 watts here!) It's a very comprehensive application, and maybe this time the FCC will approve it.

Re: 1560 is clear! In NE Texas!

At 5:00 PM 11/13, KGOW was booming into Longview like a local. Much stronger than KTRH. Signal strength similar to KTBB Tyler.

Yeah Longview Texas - That's really going to help KGOW. Maybe cheap spots for the Longview Pharmacy in Downtown Longview. A proud sponsor of the Longview High School Football Team.

I traveled to Louisiana this past weekend and when I approached Orange,TX , which is on the TX/LA Border. I could hear 1560! It wasnt excellent reception but was listenable. This was during the day around 1pm.

Never implied that their signal reaching into Longview would help them. Just posting a signal report. I thought that was the purpose of this thread.

The Longview Pharmacy would make the seventh advertiser they would have on the air and the first new one in over three months.

Greg... Nevermind the sarcasm, thanks for the info on the signal strength. Some of us are interested.

Thanks

I'll "second" that! Thanks for the report.

Looked at the FCC database and their major lobe is NNE, right at NE Texas. Signal is also listenable here at mid-day.

200 miles daytime on 1560 ain't bad.

I drove in from Dallas to attend the Dynamo game in Houston this weekend, and The Game came in loud and clear from way, way out.

And, as a castoff from the ill-fated SportsFan 990 in Dallas, I'll miss talking with David Nuno.
