Hope everybody's DXing 1560. New York's WQEW is off the air while the sale closes (or something - maybe Family Radio doesn't have the means to get signal from studio to xmtr), but that can't be for long.
There was a notification on the New York Radio Message Board, maybe 12 years ago, that 'WQEW' was going to be off one overnight for transmitter purposes.
So everyone DXed. A station from Maryland was the most widely heard, at least in the northeast.
Nowadays, with some four dozen stations on 1560, the frequency must be quite the sunrise/sunset cornucopia.
Word is that the new owners won't have the signal up and at 'em until early next week. It seems the weather there is so delightful that no one at the place is in a big hurry.
I tuned in before dawn this morning and heard religious music (hymns) on 1560 with the ATS 505 aimed east. No announcer and I never caught an ID. But the music was familiar to me as a Catholic as being songs which are often played or sung during Masses. So I'm pretty comfortable in assuming that this was New York City. Signal was fair-poor but steady, with other weak signals unidentifiable underneath.
