1570 Quebec's signal...

...(CJLV) really booms in to the Boston/SNE area. Impressive even early in the evening (only 10,000 watts).

Now that Radio Disney 1560 New York City isn't running their HD Radio hash generator anymore, its become a lot easier to get Quebec on 1570.

The station (licensed to Laval, a Montreal suburb) is known for sending it's power straight east...although some does make it out west to my location from time to time...has been known to be one of the easiest for european dxers to when listening for transatlantic dx. They probably are sending more than 10,000 watts in your direction, due to their pattern.

Indeed, if I'm not mistaken, when CJLV first started testing (at lower power, I believe), DXers in Norway immediately began filling up their inbox. However, I can even now barely get them, though I'm only a little over 100 miles (170 km) west of their transmitter site.

Having lived in the Middle East, including spending quality time in Israel, there's something about listening to Reshet Bet newscasts in Hebrew, over the scratchy 1570 AM signal :).

On rare nights in south FL in the 70s, I heard them as CKLM, bilingual Top 40 (I got a survey from them in the mail with IIRC a top 20 each in English & French)...of course they were 50 k back then.

That was actually a different station. They went dark some time in the 80's or early 90's. This is a completely different station that's only been on air since 2003/4 or 2005.

In it's CKLM days, wasn't 1570 running 50,000 watts??

Also, I thought that CKLM in the 1970's aired games of the old Quebec Nordiques until the 19879 NHL/WHA merger.

Definitely 50 k, but didn't know about any sporting events on CKLM, not that it couldn't happen.
