1580 am Back on the Air as Mega

They would have been in a better place had they just left mega on 104.3 frequency. Sunny can't touch 99.9 KEZ Fa-getta-bout-it
iHeart didn't touch KEZ's on-air staff (and especially Beth)...for now. If that happened, it might have given Sunny a chance.

As for their streaming provider, they use Securenet Systems (Cirrus) which is known for mediocre service, apps, etc. It's the company a ton of small stations use if they want to "brag" about being able to stream at a low cost, not for those who want quality and reliability. Every time I see a station use or switch to them, I cringe.

I agree. I realize some operators may have to use cheaper streaming services because of lower revenue and streaming being expensive in and of itself, but Securenet is not among my favorites.

I disagree. The cumes of both stations were over 130,000 (for Sunny) and 111,800 for KMLE-HD3 respectively. Those numbers aren't bad; in fact, they're better than most of the market's news/talk/sports outlets.

I've always been told cume is easier to sell than TSL because the customer is already in the door. When cume is high, you have to get people who are already saying yes to say yes again. They've committed to buying spots, and you have to convince them to buy more. When TSL is driving your numbers, you have to find additional advertisers as nobody needs to buy a full schedule to reach the same people all day long. So, you have to find new buyers who haven't committed yet. The first is usually easier. The problem with high cume/low share is that advertisers know they're not reaching very many people with each spot, and your rates will reflect that. CHR/Top-40 and Jack rely on high cume, high turnover, and a high rate of returning listeners. Mega and Sunny may have the first two, but they don't seem to have the last.

With regard to what is now KZNY-FM, I would be looking for it to show improvement in the Flagstaff ratings, whenever those are taken again.

It might do better in Flagstaff; the problem there is that being an also-ran in Phoenix will bring in a lot more money than being a leader in Flagstaff. I haven't seen the numbers for both in ages, but I would expect the leading stations in Phoenix to bill more each year than the entire Flagstaff market. Flagstaff might make a living for some people, but they're working and hustling for it everyday.
