1580 Bithlo

Off the air for many months - daytime only directional signal high on the dial. Was Spanish programming for years on a LMA. I actually tried to contact Rama in the last week or so and haven't heard back. The owner is now listed as Rama Communications of North Carolina - don't know what that is about either.
 
I thought it was directional, but I can only see 1 stick on google earth. I recall that it took years to get this thing moved from Mount Dora... which 25 years later, may be a more desirable location.
 
I would have left 1580 in Mount Dora for several reasons: 1) Mount Dora is much more populated than Bithlo with much more advertising dollars available; 2) 1580 operated non-directionally from Mount Dora and could have increased power to 10kw-NDD in contrast to needing a three-tower array at Bithlo. If WNTF could place a city grade signal over Orlando, than the move to Bithlo may be worth the effort. However, its directional 10kw only places a city grade contour over the extreme East end or Orlando which isn't enough to actually be an Orlando station. Furthermore, the signal cannot be improved over Orlando due to protecting second adjacent WLAA 1600 Winter Garden.
 
Maybe Rama purchased it to simulcast 1600? 1580 is close enough on the dial for identical on air imaging and would cover the area of East Orlando to fill in daytime weak spots and the nighttime service that 1600 lacks.
 
Just a question for my own understanding, so forgive me if I should already know the answer -- Would it be possible to move 1580 back to Mount Dora at this point if an owner were interested in doing so? If yes, would nearby 1600 prohibit any increase in power during the move?

Not worth spending the money to move a daytime only AM. Even if you could move it, it most likely wouldn't be worth it.

Very true. I believe the old WBGB Mt.Dora building is still standing, but the stick is long gone.
 
There is no technical reason I am aware that will prevent 1580 from moving back to Mount Dora usng a single stick. However, there is a legal concern that will prevent a move, and that is 1580 is the only broadcast service licensed to Bithlo. Unless a substitute AM, FM or NCE-FM can be identified to become licensed to Bithlo replacing 1580, AM 1580 is essentially "stuck" where it is for now.
 
Stuck there til the license gets deleted. It was Spanish for many years so it is pretty invisible to the general public now.
