1590 in Ocean City

Did anyone else hear this new station, they call themselves KHQ-TV.Com and they play top 40 tunes from the last 25 years, they were loud and clear on the boardwalk in Ocean City on 1590AM. From Tommy Tutone to Billy Idol to Prince to Rap and Rock. I think I heard them ID WKHQ Ocean City.

Nothing I can find in the databases to suggest this is anything other than a pirate, but an AM pirate? I thought that went out the window years ago.

WKHZ/Ocean City, MD @ 1590AM.

They pretend to be Top 40/CHR-M, but I heard them last year and they were more gold-based Hot AC. I believe, at one time, Pat Sajak owned it (flipped it to N/T).

Wrong Ocean City. Not a new station.

WKHZ is 1590am from Ocean City, MD and has been "Top 40" for several years now.

It's 1,000 watts day / 230 watts night.

It reaches most of coastal Cape May County, NJ very well.

WKHZ has been on 1590 in Ocean City, MD for a while now. Hard to believe an AM Top 40 has lasted this long in this day in age but they sound good. I actually interviewed with them for a job years ago. They wanted to consolidate 4 job functions for one person: promotions director, program director, PM drive and account executive...for a grand total of $21,000 per year!!! Plus commission on the sales, of course!! I'll be honest, I contemplated this for about a week before I declined. I thought about all the experience I could gain from all the functions. But even though I was still in my 20s, I would've had to move down there from NJ and the pay was too low to make the move. So, I stayed in NJ and work weekends because I need a decent paying job full-time to pay my rent!! Just another 21t Century radio sob story!! Cheers!!

I believe AM 1590 signed on in Ocean City, MD in the late sixties. The original calls were WETT. Previous owners included a local businesswoman named Gina Grazier, followed by Stuart Frankel, who managed WMAR-TV in Baltimore for a while. As WKHZ, it ran a CHR format around 2000, with the Greaseman in the morning. Pat Sajak bought the station circa 2001 and ran a News/Talk format. I haven't heard the station since it flipped back to music, but having worked there in the early eighties, I can tell you the station's directional pattern has always been, to put it politely, problematic. Bottom line: the signal shoots due east - straight out into the ocean!
