1620 AM Billboard In Birmingham?

When you're driving on 65 North headed into Birmingham, there's a billboard on the left just before the Green Springs Avenue exit (right by the Rickwood Radio Service building) that's an Auburn-themed 'Talk Of The Town - Tune In To 1620 AM'.

Yet, when you tune into 1620, you get static. Google turns up nothing as well.

Was this a mistake? Or is there something I'm missing here?

I believe I've heard the BHM location (and there's another 1620 AU station in Montgomery). It seems like the signal during daylight hours only travels about a 10th of a mile and at night is practically nonexistant. My guess is they are part15 AM stations with the antenna/xmitter rig on the sign itself. as long as the antenna/coax are less than 3 meters it's legal without a license.

I heard this station a month or so ago. The signal was weak and seemed strongest a little north of the billboard. Near the next exit north, I cant remember what exit it is. With that kind of coverage it will take a long time to pay for the billboard.

The BHM location is near the Greensprings Rd exit (exit 258). The Montgomery location is near the Ann St and Perry Hill Rd exits (exits 3&4, respectively). FYI, If the transmitters had a good ground system, or possibly had a few others placed every quarter mile and had the audio synched, these could be a viable option. It may cost a few thousand dollars or more for each networked set of transmitters, but that would be no problem at all for Auburn University or Auburn Athletics... ;)

During football season they carried interviews and features from the Auburn ISP Sports Network. Given the season my Tigers had, there was some really scintillating material (sarcasm dripping profusely).
