1650 TIS in Selma

I just heard this one today with a loop about the US-80 Civil Rights landmarks. Does anyone know the call letters of it as I never heard them announced?

...And I'm supposed to know about the new station(s) that come to Selma. Man, I didn't even know this one existed nor has my local newspaper said anything about it. Thanks for sharing the info with me. I'll have to check it out. B.T.W. how much power do they have?

An update: Just surfed by that frequency and my home stereo system couldn't get them, at all. All I heard was static.

Maybe when I'm traveling down Broad Street and within the Edmond Pettus Bridge, I might be able to catch them.

Why would the local paper waste time talking about it if its just a TIS?

To Chad Stevens:

I was in West Selma today and could barely hear them. (Crescent Hill Drive) I live in North Selma and can't even get them at all. (Park Avenue) Where were you, when you heard them? Just curious.

Been looking for more info on this station but haven't found any. Did hear them say this station is owned by the Alabama Department of Transportation. However, they didn't speak of any calls, their dial position and/or city location.

Maybe their coverage area is just confined to West Selma only. Hope I can get them when I travel down Broad Street again. If not, then I'll have to listen to them when I'm in west Selma.

When I did listen, I did hear them speak of the historical landmarks we have in Selma and in White Hall. Like you stated, it was in a loop presentation.

I heard it in the clear on US-80 near Casey in the vicinity of Camp Site I. The station's loop thanks WHLW, but I'm not sure what involvement they have with it.

If anyone discovers the actual calls and transmitter site, I'd be interested to know the details. It's not listed with the FCC yet. That General Menu Report system they use only lists one 1650 in all of Alabama, in Tallapoosa County.

With the range being as limited as it sounds, it may be a part 15 station. Especially considering that the range is only a couple square miles.
