1660 Naples

1660 Naples at night can be recieved up and down the Florida east coast from Key West to at least as far north as Orlando.

During the day, I got a very weak barely audible signal out in the wilderness to the northeast of Tampa.

I can't hear it at all right in Tampa itself, though.

Several years ago in August, I heard it on the car radio while parked on the beach at Destin,FL around noon.

When I was a kid, they had WNOG, Wonderful Naples on the Gulf on 1230, as I recall. Is this that same station?

No 1660 is a totally separate station. WNOG 1270 is indeed still around although it is not local any longer. Other than a 3 hour morning show it's all syndicated blather (Beck, Rush, Hannity etc) the rest of the time. WNOG is the "heritage" station in Naples but it's a shadow of it's former self.

1660 came about several years ago and has been through several owners and formats. Currently it is playing some sort of "jazz type" of format. Very strange to say the least. 1660 is 10,000 watts daytime but is only 1,000 watts NT so I am surprised that it can be heard from any distance. I can't ever clearly receive it at my house most nights.

Was able to hear 1660 when it was WCNZ in Sep 2004 doing daytime DXing from Port Fourchon, LA. Clearly? Absolutely not. But considering how high on the dial they were, I figure that to be a nice catch.

From that spot, was able to hear Cuba (670 & 710 IIRC), KVNS 1700 TX, and XEFW (even harder to catch than WCNZ) Tampico. I'd say that those were the "extremes." So that's about a 900 mile swath, Gulf wide!
