1690 IS VERY STRONG

I was in Muscle Shoals, AL this past weekend and even during the midday 1690 was clear as a bell. We are talking about 260 miles from Atlanta. It faded sometimes but was consistently audible all day and even at night. WSB was also audible during the day. I thought this was quite interesting for 1690 especially.

NOT NECESSARILY! You were getting the station via high angle skip. This is not uncommon up in the expanded band. It's close to shortwave, so this will happen. WAGL 1560 Lancaster SC with their 50,000 watts daytime directional ALWAYS has some skywave component to the signal, even in summer!

I noticed exceptionally good reception from ALL OVER the south this past weekend as well! Greenville SC's 660 and Nashville's 650 were both coming in strong and clear during the early afternoon hours! Nashville is normally just a faint whisper after 10-11am, and Greenville usually fades too much to listen to consistently.

The expanded band was very active as well, some of the frequecies just mud. All of the Atlanta AM'ers were blasting in, even the flea watts. I haven't checked the dial since this weekend to see if it's still active during the day.
