You Know, I Just Need to say a few words. First of all, Kudos to "WJRG" for doing something that most AM/FM stations are not doing, something different. Yes YOU in the "BIG WOOPIE I'M A LICENCED CLASS A" biz, read that again. And to you----posting negative whom are in the business working on AM/FM should be ashamed of yourselves for even mentioning things like Are You PART 15 or "PIRATE"??. Don't you realize their is bigger competition out there, Lets all say SATELLITE together please. I get more interference from other cars with SIRIUS and XM receivers on FM-- than ANY PART 15 AM or even FM broadcaster (or you call PIRATE) just going to and from work trying to receive a distant signal(LIKE ANOTHER MARKET SOUTH OF US). I am appalled that someone could even ask this AM broadcaster about signal/legallity when AM and FM are less listened to than ever, or even much at all. What harm could AM 1700 do to you?? You better look to the sky first, and then second check your legallity. WHAT? EAS WHAT?? MODULATION WHAT?? Don't Worry, Just-In-Case you are wondering--the calls are....... Anyways, just so you know otherwise, I can get someones Satellite signals for many miles so long as I dont change my cruise control settings everyday, and someone has to make a stink about a mere nothing nothing of a watt??? Come on. Check your own Equipment). Your just angry that even if the station had only one listener, it was 1 more..... But you fill that in. We need more diversity, especially since "licenced" stations are even hardly being listened to. I'll be activating my Satellite subscription now. Hey, why not, ITS UNREGULATED!! (WHAT? I CAN"T HERE YOU ANYMORE?? WHAT?? PART 15 WHAT??) Betcha I'll never here you sportscasting or doing voicetrax on any of these 100 and some channels. Better Not Mention It's a Dephi or you'll have me investigated. OOPS. I think no matter what it is on AM or FM, more is MORE. I Congratulate all that supported AM 1700. You whom want to get all technical--Lets talk about what the FCC and former President Clinton did for corporate Media. Nah, you already know.

Plain and simple, there is a legal way and an illegal way to do things. If one is using a transmitter that exceeds part 15 limitations, he/she is operating against the law. Programming makes no difference, it is a legal issue.

Satellite radio voicetracks more than we do, and who do you think does all that VT'ing? Plenty of the same people you are bashing with tirads against terrestrial radio, either were on terrestrial or still do both...

Ours is a nation of law, not lawLESSness. Much as I have serious issues with what's become of radio due to the mega-companies grinding the guys in the trenches into dust, and much as I'd like to own my own AM or FM (it'll never happen, I'm out of radio and a house painter by choice) I believe the Rules and Regulations must be followed and when modified, done so within the proper legislative and administrative process. Otherwise, chaos results.

Pirates are "romantic" but they sure don't help matters for the remaining Mom & Pops and Independents who are trying to compete with the industry sharks on a defined, if not always level playing field.

As to Satellite radio, it's in big trouble. Why else would XM and Sirius NEED to merge? Mel's no dummy, he knows what's on the horizon. Look at the financials for both companies: Bleeding red and no black ink to be seen. Besides, Satellite isn't home-free because Wi-Fi and Cell phone radio technologies are going to put it behind the 8-Ball as much as Satellite thinks it's going to put Terrestrial behind the 8-Ball.

It's high time to think of "Radio" as a whole entity, whether it's delivered from geo-synchronous orbit, a 500 foot tower atop a mountain, a stick in a swamp or an antenna perched atop a water tower.

While exceeding Part 15 limits is illegal, there is one loophole around this. In many smaller towns/cities, groups have put up Part 15 networks...a series of Part 15 xmtrs in different neighborhoods, but simulcasting the same programming. Check out Keith Hamilton's website's testimonial page - I believe they even have one in the city of Decatur, Illinois.
