Dave's morning show is a joke- Barnes is a washed up pompus a** and his side kick giggle box needs to get a few clues of her own. DAVE is DONE

Can anyone say Mitch Evans in the morning at DAVE? That would be the ultimate pay back to that jerk Barnes.

Re: Rock Without Ratings

Pardon me if I gag a little bit here, because I really can't stand the sound of "Dave" and it's pretty sickening to me to get even this close to defending them, but ... I try to be fair.

While their 18-34 performance, well, sucked, they were up 30% in P35-54 AQH Share (which seems to be the dynamic that Rodney is referencing here)

Which probably explains why their P25-54 AQH Persons was actually up 4% even though their AQH share was down 3%.

I hope you're right, I think even Free FM would be better than the current product, but I'm not really sure that the Fall book is going to be the justification for it. Looking back over the past 4 years worth of Fall books (6a-10), this is actually slightly higher than Fa02 & Fa03 but significantly worse than Fa04. At some point, I think they are one of many stations that probably need to ask themselves "Just how much audience can we realistically hope to attract in this market regardless of what we do".

Let's face it, there's only so many listeners to go around right now.

Consider: There were 25 stations that had a 6a-10a share with a number to the left of the decimal, there are 21 more that had at least 1/10th of that, and a total of 69 stations that had at least enough AQH(00) to show up in the book somehow. That's a lot of ways to split any pie. And just under 1/3rd of the total morning listening belonged to Urban/Spanish stations, audiences that -- let's be honest here -- the Dave FM's of the world have precious little chance to attract in the first place.

To bring myself back from the tangent I think I've drifted off on ... there's a lot of stations who've got numbers that are fair game for criticism, and Dave is definitely one of them IMO. Problem is, I don't really think anything they do is going to change the performance significantly for the vast majority of those stations at this point.

Here here to Mitch!.... Barnes and FurFur barely relate to each other, never mind the dozen or so who still listen.. Put Mara on with Mitch and let them actually talk "to" as opposed to "at" the listeners.

Given the amount of flowery self-indulgent imaging I'm amazed they find time to play music...

We want to deliver weekend programming that fits your lifestyle. We want to deliver a musical recipe that reflects the artist composite of your CD collection or iPod. We want to deliver promotional opportunities that match your needs and desires.

Yawn. Wake me when the shuttle lands.

Rodney,

Nice job. How much of WSB morning numbers are Boortz? Do you have an hourly breakout?

Let's see if I can answer this without using a single unallowed number ;)

If you're looking at AQH SHARE (which I believe Rodney was referring to)
(P25-54), the hourly 5a/6a/7a/8a has less than a 10% variance at any time, and all but the 7a are within like 1%-2% of each other. 9a is about 20% higher than any of the earlier hours in terms of share.

However, if you look at Rating instead, 7a is the highest, with 8a & 9a virtually identical to each other, both of which fall 5%-10% lower than 7a.

I hope that answers what you were trying to figure out, it ain't easy to word that & still stay within the board rules but I _think_ I managed to find a way.

If they flip to FREE they would go from rock without ratings to talk without ratings. Actually I think their ratings are better now than they would be as FREE. I wonder why this station went DAVE instead of JACK in the first place? Although it would have peaked out by now, I think a true Variety Hits JACK would have been more of a success than the AAA leaning DAVE.
