Since I am feeling like bringing up the good ole' days of QC radio. Today would have been the 19th birthday for me and a lot of other people would be one of the best oldies stations in America Magic 96... With lots of stuntung at 5PM feb 27th WWMG was born playing the biggest hits of the 60's 70's and 80's... Everybody knows the story of this Carolina gem... To all those great jocks who passed through the doors of Magic thanks for putting some good class into Carolina radio as well as a lot of fun... CC

Yep...and do you remember the first song that was played??

That is the one thing I do not know... I was in the 10th grade and was coming home from Spartanburg to Kershaw where I lived... That was one weekend I left my walkman at the Deaf and Blind school where I went... I just remember hearing everything ffom Tears for Fears into the Four Seasons and thought wow that was pretty cool... CC

I was thinking about the 19th anniversary of Magic this weekend myself, and was going to put up a post but you guys beat me to it :)

Magic 96's original 60s, 70s, and 80s format is still the absolute best music format I have ever heard on the radio in my life! And every single member of Don Schaeffer's jock roster was an absolute delight to listen to. The days when Charlotte radio had PERSONALITY!

-Don Schaeffer
-Drew Lane
-Bob ("Bobba-Lou") Lewis
-Vicki Lewis (as far as I know, no relation to Bob)
-Jim Reary
-Bobby Knight
-Bill Curtis and Tequila Deru doing news (I know I didn't spell her last name correctly)
-Janet King doing traffic
-and "Magic Meteorologist Paul Deligotto" (I probably didn't spell his last name correctly either).

I miss Magic and the people that made it something special. I know this post is utterly pointless, but thanks for letting me reminisce.

That is correct. Vikki had the better tan :)

The first song played on Magic 96 WAS <drumroll.....>
Grease by Frankie Valli

I don't care if they put it on AM or FM this format needs to come back. There are a lot of people clammoring for it's return. A good many have given up on radio and just turned it off. They may be over 50 but they aren't dead.

If you happen to be in the Cotswold area give a listen to Costwold Community radio at 87.9 FM. A very nice mix of music (I have nothing to do with it). They claim to be a "Part 15" station, in other words just under power and not regulated by the FCC. They also broadcast on 1610 but that signal is much weaker.

There is also a station playing oldies in Richburg, SC that makes it into Charlotte but it's spotty in places.

Who was on WWMG that came directly from a station in Richmond?
